Hello! I made a post about finding a place to move in the main forum, and several people recommended Charlotte, so i figured i'd make a post here!
I am a black single mother in her early 30s looking to start over after a terrible relationship. I work remotely so I can pick up and move most anywhere, but would ideally love to find a working class/middle class neighborhood, that is either majority black, or mixed but open minded and welcoming.
My top priorities are safety (somewhere i don't have to worry about letting my son play outside), and affordability (i am approved for a 200k, but would ideally like to spend a bit less than that). Schools are important, but i am very open to a charter school or private school if needed. And i'd love to be pretty conveniently located to downtown or other cool areas.
I know i'm asking a lot haha, can neighborhoods like this be found in Charlotte? Where would you recommend??
Thanks so much!

Does it have to be working class or majority black? If you are willing to look at something under 1,000 square feet, then you can find something for 200 or less, in close proximity to downtown (uptown) Charlotte, and in a good school district. I would not categorize this area(s) as majority black or working class.

Reedy Creek and Prosperity Road Area in northeast Charlotte are a good mix and affordable and on the safer side.

Look in the 28269 zip code. Very diverse neighborhoods with some homes in your price range. Schools are decent and area is quite safe.
We lived there for about 12 years when first moving to Charlotte. Eventually moved to Davidson but that's because we needed a bigger home and we were at a point where we could increase our home budget.
Good luck!

I feel like Charlotte's "working class/middle class" neighborhoods are mixed enough that you can feel comfortable, race-wise, in any of them. Look for one that fits your other criteria.

As a realtor, I don't get into (and shouldn't get into) steering anyone towards or away from "black" neighborhoods, but I own a few rental properties around the Prosperity Church Road area in northeast Charlotte, it is diverse, safe, and I have wonderful experiences with the neighbors at the homes I rent there. I think you could probably find something in the $200k range that would make you happy around there.

As multiple people have said Prosperity Church/Highland Creek area is a very diverse but solidly safe area. The home are nice and the neighborhoods are pretty large. The schools are solid and you are close to Huntersville and Concord Mills area for convenience to WalMart, the mall, and so on.
