Just curious if Shiloh Elem., Sun Valley Midd/High are Year Round Schools and peoples experiences with the year round school system?

Any input is appreciated!

I don't know about Shiloh, but SVMS and SVHS are NOT year round. I have had experience with y/r schools in CA though and I love them. I think it keeps the kids and parents from getting so burnt out on school. It does make it difficult for those who need daycare during off track times though.

Seems weird that one would be Year Round and the upper grades not. What do you do when you have one child in the elementary school and another in the middle?!

I worked in year round schools for 16 years. I don't really consider Shiloh to be "year round." If you look at the calendar, it just starts a little early and has a couple of weeks of breaks in the middle of the school year.

Most people love being off when the rest of the world is not, but it does get difficult when you have different kids on different schedules (ie: older child at SVMS.)

We were always told that it was too difficult to incorporate it in to the higher grades due to the large number of elective classes offered. For example if the school offers a computer programming class, then they need to have the same number of teachers as different tracks so they can offer it to all students regardless of what track they are on. At one time I had one child in yr and another on traditional. It was sometimes difficult to plan things but I made sure to select a track where they had time off together so we could do family vacations.

But there aren't any tracks in Union County "year round" schools.
