I'll show great Italian restaurants and pizza and safe nice places to go....if you help me find a job!!!!! Been looking for almost 3 months, have interviewed and no bites. I may have to consider moving back to NJ. Have 20 years admin./marketing/customer service experience. Thought it would be easier.

Others are on the corner of South Blvd & East Blvd, Corner of College & 6th (Downtown) & Davidson. Whole pizza or by the slice. I like my crusts a little crisper like they do at Luisas (across from Park Rd. Shopping Center), but Fuel is quite good! |

This county has been one of the fastest growing counties in the nation for years. When we first moved here from Charlotte in 1975, I needed a loaf of bread after 6:00 P. M. and ended up driving 20 miles (10 miles in each direction) before I found an open store. We now have a gas station open all hours less than 1/2 mile away. If your idea of a good time is to go out to a bar and drink, you won't like it here. If you like soccer, swimming, basketball, softball, baseball (playing not watching) neighborhood get-togethers, going to church, family fun, PTO meetings, steeplechase, golf, and some of the best barbecue in the world sponsered by the school booster's club, you will probably fit right in and enjoy life in Sweet Union. Judging by all the people moving here, it must be "The best place to be." |

I m not living in Char yet. But I think its awesome that my sister who has lived there 3 years, can go to a local restaurant for breakfast and bump into 2 to 3 different groups of people that she actually knows. (yes, I witnessed this). And its not just hi how are you fake-o type chat. They really chat and you can tell she happens to see people she knows all the time. Also, it happened at the mall, we saw people we'd met out the night before.
That kind of thing is UNHEARD OF in a big city. That is only one of the reasons Im moving there, and I wanted to mention it as no one else did. In the long run, my family will have more than just a city. Friends, Roots, Community, a Life! |

And transferred her 15 years ago...I don't however see all the Southern Hospitality...yes some people are friendly...but to say that most people are might be stretching it...alot of people like to be left alone...and I can't blame them there...I like my privacy too...I have lived in NY, Atlanta, and DC and found many nice people there as well.
And depending on your age and what you are into...Charlotte offers a little bit to everyone...and just as in any city...if you don't like it...you found your way there...you can find your way back...right? Have lived in Huntersville, Lake Wylie, South Charlotte, Southeast Charlotte, Uptown & Mountian Island Lake (charlottes best kept secret)....SHHHHH!...and honestly was the happiest Uptown during that time in my life...could walk to restaurants, clubs, sporting events...all that Uptown has to offer...and I know it is new for you transplants...but in Charlotte it is "UPTOWN'...or..."Center City"...they dropped the name downtown probably in the early 80's...but alot of people still call it downtown... Watch out for all that move Uptown...Realtors will not tell you...but Uptown residents in ZIP Code -28202 only- have the Highest property taxes in Charlotte...you pay MECKLENBURG Couty tax, Charlotte City tax & an UPTOWN tax too...it is not a whole lot more...but Uptown residents pay the highest taxes on personal property...home, condo, car...but it is a wonderful place to live...and alot of younger professionals with kids are moving Uptown too...cause they are tired of long commutes to/from work. I was mugged Uptown in 2001...so what...it can happen anywhere at anytime...unless yuo don't ever leave your house...and the only thing to fear...is fear itself...was mugged in NY too...oh well...life does go on. WELCOME to Charlotte...the Carolina's TRUE GEM. |

I can't believe all the comments about crime in Charlotte! All I can say to you folks is "Don't ever come to Atlanta!" It's out of control here. The ELEMENTARY school we're zoned for had over 30 violent incidences last year. These are just 5-11 yr. olds! Imagine how violent their parents must be. And our neighborhood is not cheap at all. We're thinking of moving to Charlotte to escape this place. I have friends in Charlotte who LOVE it. I think it depends on what part you live in. But here in Atlanta, even if you live in Buckhead or The Highlands, you still have to deal with thugs and crappy schools. I'm over it.

I was in uptown toay and notice there is demographic change in Uptown in comparison of the 90's when I first venture into this area.
Alot of multiculture and younger people and lot more people on the sidewalks. In the 90's it was mostly grey hair buisness suit types. |

Well, I moved from Manhattan to Waxhaw, so the differences are considerable. I didn't want to move here. We did it for my husbands career because he thought he would be able to advance more quickly here. So far that has been working out very well, and I have adapted while still being frequently homesick for New York. I love having such a big house (we went from a one-bedroom apt. to 3700 sq. feet) and I have made many wonderful friends here. The weather is great, although the summers are pretty hot. Basically instead of spending several winter months largely indoors the way I did up north, I spend a couple of months in the summer largely indoors with my air conditioning. The rest of the year the weather is wonderful, and the winters are mild.
I miss being able to order take-out, and I miss the variety of restaurants, museums, theater and opera we had in New York. Most of all I miss being able to walk everywhere. |
