I recently moved to Huntersville and love it. You are close to a lake, low crime, new shopping, near highways, 30 minutes from Uptown, etc. Trafiic is nothing, compared to most places I have lived. I commute to uptown during rush hour and take a back road, so I don't sit the big traffic jam at exit 25, but then again, compared to other cities thats just a 10 minute set back.

Tracey,
I agree with your concern/confusion - I have also read alot of interesting postings on the Mooresville/Lake Norman area and they seem to be split.
My family and I are considering relocating to the Mooresville area and love what we have seen, but then you start reading peoples input and you get concerned.
Alot of people seem to love the lake, the boating, the relaxed lifestyle, the schools, the lower cost of living and seem extremely happy with everything except for "the traffic".
Then there's the other side, where people seem to be very unhappy with the overcrowding of schools, the lake norman power plant, "the fake lake", chain restaurants, strip malls and the unbearable traffic to name a few.
Can anyone please help clear the air !
I love what we have seen in the Mooresville area, but are very concerned when we read all the negative items/feedback about the area.

I think you need to read back a few posts about the Mooresville schools.
The power plant is a non issue here and has been for 40 years.
Who cares if the lake is man made? It's one of the most beautiful lakes I've ever seen and 95% of the homes on the lake are hardly eye soars. Unless you think $3 Million homes are hard to look at.
We have shopping centers here, not strip malls.
Traffic is all relevant. Where are you from? I have no problem with the traffic up here. I have patience. The only time traffic is really bad is during commute hours, but even that is not that bad compared to larger cities.

Shopping Malls
This one is kinda funny to me. Having lived in the midwest where "strip malls" are lower class malls. Shopping malls being higher class. I would agree in the north strip malls are not considered higher class malls, but you have to consider the weather. When we really dont get bad weather and everyone wants to be outside all year round. Strip malls down here are a good thing.
It is funny to me how people judge an area based on what they know of where they live versus looking at the entire picture. I am not really trying to pick on anyone here, I just find it funny.
People in the south have a lot more warm weather. You can golf almost all year 'round. It may get cold and snow but the next day it is typically gone and and back up into the 60's. In general people here love to be outside all the time.
As far as the NYers moving in. The only problem I have had and heard from others is they think because they have moved in and brought their "money" and we should be grateful. Actually had a NYer tell me this. For a lot of them it all about the money, and they dont care to learn the culture or anything about the area. They just kinda come in and take over. That being said I have met a lot of NYers that are not like that too. I think it is about 50/50. As far as the money...there was plenty of money before..this is NASCAR area.
I think the culture diversity that has become the Charlotte metro area is great. Why cant we all just get along

The shopping is great here...just about anything you can think of or want, you can find.
Traffic is a breeze compared to NY! People think I'm nuts for traveling from Mooresville to Ft. Mill to go to work. It takes me less than a hour door-to-door. (The commute in NY too way longer than that!).
Come back to Mooresville & look around some more! Go to both sides of I-77. You have your pick of being by the lake or in the country/farm area...both are beautiful & have lots to offer in any price range.

BxRosie,
I was so happy to see people still adding comments to this thread. We actually have a trip already scheduled for the end of May. I have appointments set up in both the MGSD (Intermediate & High School), Brawley Middle & Lake Norman High. Once I know which school district is going to be a good fit for our family then we can focus on a home purchase/ rental. If you can think of anything else we should be considering please feel free to let me know. Its all good................

We came from the Hudson Valley, NY. A small town called Fishkill, wanted a better climate. Live in Cornelius and the traffic is not really that much worse than Route 9 at Rush hours. Everything is so close like stores, restauarants ,gas stations, Parks even the Senior Citizens Center is close. We like it, we rent, retired, no children attending schools. Like the idea you can go to the park and sit by the lake, or have coffee and sit by the lake and watch the boats. Its Nice!

OMG...I remember the traffic on 9!!! I lived in Carmel before moving to Mooresville. It was 26 miles to Walmart from my house & we either shopped along 9 or in Danbury for everything else other than groceries. The traffic here is a breeze compared to 9.
We loved Cornelius, but settled on Mooresville because of the school system. And yes, the weather is definitely better here!

Hey, that's next week! Give out a shout when you're in town!
You're doing the right thing...check out the schools & see which one fits your family the best. Once we knew MHS was good for our son, both academically & socially, that was it!
GOOD LUCK!

I just cannot believe what I have read in this post.........................
After 20 years in the Charlotte area, I have seen the growth and change.
At one time, we looked at moving up that way. I cannot tell you how happy I am that we did not.
For the first time in many years, I had to run up to Mooresville (exit 36) to check out some merchandise. It is 52 miles from my house southeast of Charlotte...........what a mess!!!!
The traffic, congestion, the feel of being boxed in all along the freeway. I could not wait to get out that area.
It is nice, however, once you get east and into the country a little bit.
Anyway, the only people that are going to be positive about those areas along the 77 corridor near Lake Norman are those that see the lake as some sort of great recreation area.
Take a look at a state map, there are hundreds of lakes and very nice, open country feel areas with no crime, nice people just enjoying life.
I think all of you liking that area along 77 north of Charlotte up through exit 36 or so are totally nuts!!!
It all depends on "what you get used to". Who doesn't like quiet, country setting with easy access to shopping, downtown, etc?
Who doesn't like "no crime"? Who doesn't like "very little, if any traffic"?
Who doesn't like "a little space and privacy"?
Being born and bred in Southern California and living in a dozen other areas around the country, I have found one of the best areas of the metro to live and I love it.....................you won't, so stay away!!!!!!
This is my opinion and in no way do the people responsible for this forum necessarily agree!!!
