What is so bad about people from northern states moving to southern communities? I hear northerners talked about on the forums like they are green-skinned invaders that crash landed in our backyards. What gives?

Many people from N of the Mason Dixon line come here and sniff about various things . . . are condescending . . . and so the feeling is . . . we were doing just fine here w/o you . . . if you don't like it . . . don't come or go back home.
Here are the typical comments, wh/ are extremely insulting to those of us who have lived here (and enjoyed our life here) for several hundred years:
I sure hope my child doesn't start talking like you guys. (or worse - Youse guys, Hee Hee).
The schools here are so backward. We had blue ribbons schools in XX.
Trailers! OMG!!! I am surrounded by rednecks and hillbillies!!! You people are soooo tacky here! Haven't you people ever heard of zoning?
OMG!! I have never actually seen a real hick before! I don't want my children exposed to people like that.
What's the problem here? There is no decent food here!!!
Hurry up, will you. I am not interested in standing in line while you yack with the check out clerk!
You people drive like old ladies! Everyone here is so ingrown! Haven't you people ever been outside Mecklenburg County?
What's wrong with people here? No one can ever do anything on time! Where I'm from, people get off their duffs and get busy. Southerners are lazy.
What's up with the accent? The rest of the world knows how to talk! You people sound like bumpkins!
I want diversity! Why is there no diversity here! You people are racists!
Where is the xx community? (Hispanic, Puerto Rican, Italian, Polish, etc). I guess the South is not welcoming to anyone who wasn't born here.
How about those comments for starters. If you wanna hear more, I will be glad to keep writing.

Not sure how I ended up in this forum.... but I can not believe any one here in Mooresville has any complaints about traffic!!! How was it "before" we Yankees came down here? Like someone mentioned in an above post, everything is relative.
I lived in the Bronx and had to travel daily to different customer locations in the NY Tri-State area. You don't know what stuck in traffic means until you have been on the Cross Bronx and moved 3 miles in 2 hours!! Try "looking for parking" in an urban / commercial area!!
We moved to Mooresville a few months ago. Absolutely love it. It is really ironic, my concern before we moved south was all the stereotypical depictions of Southerners ( Rednecks, Hillbillies, closet Klan etc ) but in reality that has not been an issue. Everyone we have met from the area ( and some from the deeper South ) have been wonderful.
Yes there is some getting used the fact that people here run their lives at a different speed than we did up in NY, but that is EXACTLY WHY WE MOVED HERE IN THE FIRST PLACE!!!!!!!!!!
Seriously, there is no need to even mention the word "crime" in this area...again its all relative..remember I was born and raised in the South Bronx...
Have 2 kids in grade school and think the schools here are wonderful... ironically though both of my kid's teachers are from NYC. Infact my in our subdivision all my neighbors are from Long Island, CT, NY or NJ.

Yo Rico, WELCOME to Mooresville!!
I remember the traffic on the X-Bx Expy... ...what a nightmare! I remember trying to get home after a Yankee game...I'd leave about 1 hr after the game was over & the traffic NB on the Deegan was still backed up! Thank God I know the back streets outta there. Parking...when I lived in the Bx I remember looking for a spot for at least 30 mins. Most times I'd have to park 5-6 blocks+ from home. Crime...DH was a cop for 28+ yrs, I was a 911 operator...enough said. Yep, everything's relative.
We've been here 2+ years now & LOVE it! I have great neighbors in my subd from all over the USA, DS is in doing very well in MHS, it's very peaceful & quiet on our street, everyone here smiles & waves hello to you & the weather is near perfect. We enjoy the slower pace, life here is good!

With all due respect, Ani, when I first moved down here in 1997, I heard a TON of ugly, unsolicited comments about Yankees coming out of Southerners' mouths, so it goes both ways. I think it's just people's natural tendencies, unfortunately, to roam in packs with an "us" versus "them" mentality.
What's funny is I grew up in Vermont, and the same types of comments went back and forth, only it was between "flatlanders" [those not from Vermont] and "rednecks."

Right, get rid of the big employers, that's a great solution...
The "not in my backyard" mentality doesn't help anyone.

Hey, GirlTravels!!! I totally understand what you mean but let's face it - when people move into an area and are very derisive and condescending to the people around them . . . they will be greeted w/ hostility. I am the most polite person you will meet - truly. Very accommodating in public and especially so to newcomers. But you would not believe the things I have heard over decades of living here.
I became friends w/ my neighbors (in the 80s) despite some of the remarks that I was assaulted with when they first arrived. THey were from PA, physician and nurse, and the stereotypes they came with . . . well, let's say that the wife came with . . . She mocked the very people who would be paying her DH's salary . . . and complained non-stop. The whole neighborhood was polite to them but the wife was quickly labeled a Damn Yankee, and she regularly insulted people, wh/ meant the term stuck.
So yes, I am sure newcomers may get remarks about not wanting Yankees down here . . . but there is a reason WHY. (And I agree - it isn't fair that those who have done nothing to deserve it end up getting the brunt of Southern disgust).
It is too bad that many newcomers find themselves stereotyped - I totally agree. But it is b/c of a history of dealing w/ very disagreeable people who have been quite "in our faces" w/ the insults about Southerners.

Thanks Rosie. We really do love it here so far. I still have to spend every other week in NY because of work, but always look forward to coming back "home". It's funny you metion Yankee games, because it is the only negative to our move south. My company has season tickets and upgraded them for the new stadium. I always had first choice to what games I wanted.... it was really really really tough giving that up!!!! I lived near Fordham so I would take the Subway to games....
Have you found any good bagel shops?

Hey Rico: We had a great bagel place in the shopping center with the Harris Teeter on Williamson Road near Brawley School (Morrison Plantation). It used to be an OK place, but when the most recent owners took it over a year or two ago, they brought out the best in the place!!!
They opened a new second location on Hwy 150 out by the Marshall Steam Station (that big cogeneration smokestack you see out to the west). The shop in Morrison Plantation was closed and is being re-opened by someone other than the folks that previously ran it. Apparently, there was a problem with the co-signer on the lease and that guy is going to re-open this location using the same logos and copying the recipes. A shame!
The "good" owners are operating that Hwy 150 store for now, but are going to re-open in Mooresville soon (according to the owner).
