Default Catholic Schools?

I was interested in putting my son in the Catholic school. He would be starting Kindergarden next year. Are the Catholic schools good in Charlotte? Are there waiting lists to get in? The closest elementary to us is St. Matthew. But then it seems odd that there is no middle school close by and then the high school is close. So i'm not so sure what to do once he would reach middle school. Just wondering what people thought of the education and if all the elem. schools were good.

St. Matthews is a very good, very popular school - not sure what the current waiting list situation is, but getting in for kindergarten used to be hard - so investigate that right away if you are truly interested. In Charlotte/Mecklenburg we have our 5 elementary's, two middle schools and one high school. When kids get to be middle school age they either get in carpools or ride buses which meet at central locations and travel up to the Park Rd. campus of Holy Trinity Middle, unless they live north of the city and then they go to Huntersville to St. Mark's.

I don't know about all the area's Catholic schools, but I know St. Matthew and St. Gabriel are both very good. Even if your child will be waitlisted, don't lose hope! I know people who were way down on the waitlist and still got in. If you do get on the wait list, I would recommend calling regularly (particularly into the summer) to find out where you stand on the wait list. Your child could get in even a week before school starts. As lovesmountains said, there are buses to Holy Trinity Middle School (buses leave from St. Matthew, among other places). You would need to apply very soon, as applications have been accepted since January. They accept applications until the spots fill up. Here's a link to the website - you can apply and fill out the forms online. Good luck!

My son wouldn't be going to kindergarden til 2009. So I can't apply til next go round. I would love to hear from others how they feel about the education their children receives at these schools and what they like and don't like.
