But warm bodies in the audience is what is needed! You can't make a "public outcry" from home - no officials will hear you.

Well then I hope others can attend, b/c I have children to tend to here and I don't leave them with a sitter. I think this meeting is a good start. I also feel that there are other ways to have your voice heard. So for all of you who cannot attend write some letters

One of my friends attended
the last meeting and said it was ssuch a waste. She said here own neighborhood came up with better ideas then the cops at the meeting. She lives in Dilworth. I do think overall they are helpful for people to voice their opinions but she said the cops just told them ways to protect ourselves. I think we already know how to do that we want to know what the cops and law officials are going to do to change things. It just seems they put the blame back on us for being easy targets. She said they aren't doing anything else but driving through the neighborhoods where people have complained the most. The crazy thing is that house that was robbed three times off of Providence Road was already having the cops drive around close to 24/7 and it didn't matter. These criminals don't care about the cops. We need to hear what law officials are going to do to keep the criminals in jail. We need harsher punishements. They should be coming over the news stations and telling us they they have had enough and what they are going to do to make real change. We shouldn't have to do their jobs. I think we all already are doing our part..writing letters, e-mails, setting up neighborhood watch programs, talking to the police that live in our area, etc. Unfortunately from the people I talked to they said it will be close to 10-15 yrs. until they see real change. Even the cops I talked to at my gun class said it is going to get a lot worse before it gets better since most of their hands are tied.

MJ, I don't think this meeting is the kind your friend attended at all. Sounds like she went to neighborhood watch meeting - this one is the city council meeting.
"The goal is to encourage widespread participation in this televised meeting to let our city leaders know the 'status quo' is no longer acceptable. In addition, Charlotte is selecting a new Chief of Police and we want our voice to be heard in this selection process. NSC hopes you will come to this important meeting and you are encouraged to spread the word."
This is a perfect opportunity for some of us here to put our money where are mouths are.

That's not encouraging. Let's say for the sake of argument that every thug is put in jail. Where exactly are we going to put them?

barking..
None of it is encouraging. It is just a bad situation.
Loves it was the meeting last sat. with city officials, the gang squad and local police. The one at Providence Day School. It wasn't just her neighborhood meeting.

Okay, but it was still just a meeting with the police. This meeting is uptown in the city council chambers with the city council - the only people who can really do anything about the problems.
Again, I want to know who is going to attend and put their money where their mouths are? It's all well and good to sit here all day long complaining about crime, or just advertizing it, but this is a chance for our voices to really be heard by the right people. WHO'S IN??
