NK-as we have agreed on several topics in the past, I can't agree with you on this. Boynton Beach is not real south Fl. BB is a totally different world from broward and miami.
Also, I lived in Tarpon Springs and visited Clearwater many times. It's not the same as down south. Much nicer!!

But there again, Manhattan is extremely friendly and south Florida is no Manhattan, so density would not be a causation. I live in the panhandle of Florida often refered to as "Lower Alabama" or the "Redneck Riviera". Nevertheless, it is very friendly and fun to be with the locals. They relly know how to party, have fun, and converse. I am moving to Meck. Co. in June. It is really friendly there and the people are very helpful. I think that the natives are generally nice regardless of where one goes. In Florida, the rudeness isn't from the Florida Crackers (locals by a generation or two).

Been to Broward and been to Miami. While the drive in to Miami is a little alarming, bars on the windows etc., we got to know this area very well too as we flew in and out of there once a month for a year. Sooooooooo, I mean it is definitely more diverse down in that part of FL, a lot of Colombians, Cubans, you name it, but Charlotte is also a very diverse place.

From Ani's post:
If no one in the whole world is nice to me, I am still warm to them. Happily, I am continually greeted by people who appreciate my attempts at spreading Goodwill. And isn't it amazing? When you are upbeat, pleasant and kind to others - it usually puts a smile on their faces, so they are a bit nicer to the next person who crosses their paths . .

I couldn't agree with you more!!! This is sooooooo true, the nicer you are to someone the harder of a time they have being rude to you. If you have a chip on your shoulder to people then in return they may not be very nice to you.

Thank you, NKJ. But now that I have positioned myself as Miss Sunshine, I have something to confess. The traffic here has brought out a side of me I didn't know was even there. When someone with "foreign" license tags refused to let me merge recently, I engaged in behavior I have never done before!!! I rolled back my sunroof and shot the bird! I am serious! My own kids were never allowed to make hand gestures - it was the BIG LECTURE - never, ever do such things! But I had such a visceral reaction, I actually stuck my perfectly manicured nails up thru/ the sunroof and SHOT THE BIRD!!!!!!! And the driver shot it back!!! He even slowed down so he could get beside me and tell me exactly how he felt. And I called him a Damn Yankee. <hangs head> I know. I am so ashamed.

So anifani is the one in Charlotte that waves by flipping the bird. I am cracking up right now. It was an earlier part of the thread about this happening a lot in FL but now I can say for sure that it does happen here too. And by anifani no less aka Miss Sunshine

Oh and I just thought of another reason why I am cracking up right now. It appears Miss Sunshine aka ani would also fit in very well in the sunshine state, aka Florida because she likes to wave by flipping the bird

Hee Hee. Yep. I engaged in very childish behavior the other day. My DH said I should never do this again as people these days might toss a bottle at my windshield (or worse!!!!)

So welcome to Charlotte, and I promise to try to use my sunroof only for SUNSHINE from here out . . .

What I find really funny about this was the fact that you went the extra mile by rolling back your sunroof! As if it wasn't enough to maybe do it through the window, you went that extra step to make sure that he (as well as everyone else around him) saw it. You sure you didn't stick your head out of that sunroof when you called him a damn yankee?

Oh, yes, it was a very very deliberate act. I wanted to MAKE SURE he saw me. And yes, I was feeling very frisky, Brian . . . I have been taught to never make a "public display" . . . like a good Southern girl! But this time, I wanted a PUBLIC DISPLAY. There was no excuse for this guy acting that way. He clearly saw me, I was matching his speed and the left lane was clear - all he had to do was move over. I was furious. Then when I saw the NY tags on that black Infiniti, well . . . something just boiled up in me. I thought . . . that's it. This is my town . . . and here is someone who acts like he owns the road and my taxes helped pay for this road, not his. Oh yes, I had all these thoughts.

I didn't just open the sunroof. When he slowed down and came beside me and was yelling out the window, he had unrolled his passenger window so I could better hear him and I rolled down my window so I could make sure he heard me say DAMN YANKEE!!!! And Brian, my own DH is a Yankee. Hee Hee Hee.

He called me some very very bad names, Brian. Very bad. He, of the NY tags and new black Infiniti, said words that would make you blush!!!

But I have learned a new term (thank TheEmissary) which I started to use instead of Damn Yankee. Do you think if I called an Italian looking guy a Guido it would make him really really mad??? Or should I just stick to Damn Yankee? <batting eyes>
