Now, im not from charlotte, YET!! If in a matter of 10 days you've had 24 break-ins inside your campus....Wouldnt someone step up, and ask for more police help? Im curious. Its time to have an open house for CMPD...We need more police officers.

Brian I read it....My questions is why does it have to take 24 break-ins to finally get some attention. Investegating is one thing another is adding more police.....

Luis, this is a bit more complicated than you suggest. First of all, UNCC has it's own police force and they do a pretty decent job of patrolling the campus. Second, this is nothing new. The University campus and its surrounding apartments have been magnets for crime for quite a while. This is why I always advise people to rent away from the area, not in it. It is not so simple as just blaming the police - blame the state instead. We cannot hire more officers unless the state legislature will give us more funds. Same with our district attorney's. Charlotte has always been treated by Raleigh like the poor step-child of the state family. Until we get someone up there running things from THIS end of the state we will continue to have these kinds of problems.

Like I said, this is nothing new for the University area - and more officers have been assigned up that way in the last year. There just aren't enough to go around and crime-infested areas are too close in proximity.

We just had one in our SW neighborhood last night too...

4/21/2008 4:48:34 AM STEELE CREEK 10200 GLENBURN LN LARCENY FROM VEHICLE CASE REPORT

Above taken from CMPD site:
Calls for Service (http://maps.cmpdweb.org/cfs/Default.aspx - broken link)

I can't direct link to it because you can only search the previous 8 hours so it will roll off. Note that cmpd posts only the block address not the actual home address so this is public non-sensitive information.
