old-fashioned candy store?
Does anyone know of an old-fashioned candy store, one that might have all those brightly colored candies, rock candy, gumdrops, etc? South Charlotte preferred but they may be rare. Thanks!

Try the Candy Factory they have a great selection from Chocolates to hard candy to gum drops . Vintage style candy to more popular types and it is in it's original location with original wood floors (yeah they will creek). They also carry historic memorabila.
My favorite is the Red Bird peppermint puffs made here in North Carolina.
The Candy Factory, Uptown Lexington - Candies, Chocolate, Peppermints, Mallo Cups, Sugarfree, Nostalgic Candy, Retro Candy (the site seem a little slow when I log in)
(1.15 drive)

I don't know for sure, but I heard that Jackson's is gone and that it's a coffee shop now.

This place isn't strictly a candy store, but I doubt that anyone would be disappointed with it. And it does indeed have a nice selection of old-timey candy.
(It's The Fresh House on Hwy 25-27 in Locust, NC. It's a general store and restaurant associated with the Old School Mill. It's a little ways out of Charlotte, but close enough to warrant a trip IMO. I loved it.)

You are not the only one that loves this place Timm it is a great place.
In addition to the old-timey candy...the restaurant serves excellent food, they make their own ice cream, and a bakery to boot.
There was an article about the place (and the owner...who I might add is really nice) in Our State (NC) magazine a few years back...that is how we discovered it.

Mountain Region
Not in the Charlotte area, but the Mast General Store has a nice selection of yesteryear candies. NC locations - Valle Crucis, Boone, Waynesville, Asheville, Hendersonville.
