If you live in Belmont, you could take the backroads to Lincolnton; it's a 25 mile drive, but most of it is at high speeds.
Kings Mountain is a small town, but it's people are friendly and welcoming. Aside from Kings Mountain, I would advise against anything that's west of Highway 321. There are pockets of communities that are largely insular, especially west of 321.
