I know NOTHING about Charlotte but my husband and I are considering a relocation from Long Island NY to the south and Charlotte was one of the areas he remembers traveling through, that he liked many years ago.
For someone looking for a house 250k -- not necessarily has to be a lot of property but does need a yard for two dogs, I would be interested in knowing a community in and around Charlotte that would cater to someone who likes to play golf.
Suggestions? Advice?
And thank you in advance for your help!
The golf part is easy: You can play at many, many courses around the CLT area.
The lot size and dogs part should be easy for your price point.
Suggestion and advise: (re: "I know NOTHING about Charlotte") This can be your downfall. Use your time to explore, explore and explore. City Data is great. Come down. Look. Vacation. Rent. When you think you know the answers to what is going to make you happy, explore a little more and then act on it.

Yes -- I will be researching. I have been looking at some real estate ads online over the past few weeks -- but looking at prices and pictures of housing is not an education, as you know. I am someone who will research and explore TO DEATH! So, no worries about me not knowing anything for long. I had hit this forum by accident -- in just looking into the demographics about Charlotte last evening.
Again, thanks John. For all the threads on this forum - I found this one to be incredibly helpful (as well as the one which discusses not coming down there without employment).
I think with North Charlotte (Huntersville, Moorseville etc) you can't go wrong: you will get good neighborhoods, good schools, and can also find housing to fit your budget... no matter what your budget is. And if you want a new home- they are building tons of them (though I have no clue why with this economy!). And there are tons of older ones for sale too, not to mention all the cheap foreclosures. Good Luck!

Agree-something for everyone and you can get the country feel with a large lot a few miles from shopping, attractions and dining in either Mooresville, Cornelius or Davidson plus Lake Norman. Mooresville has the benefit of lower Iredell county taxes and good schools (resale value). It is growing fast, but still has a charming downtown area and you can quickly be out into the country. I think the traffic depends what you are used to-we don't think it is bad at all.
I prefer South Charlotte, Union county. The schools are by far better than living in Mecklenberg county. Look in the Waxhaw, Marvin and weddington areas...you won't be disappointed.
A friend of mine in Mooresville told me she loves her neighborhood Cherry Grove and homes are a great buy...in the $200+ range. FYI, in case you look in this area.
