I'll go ahead and catch this before someone else does....
I DO NOT believe that pop culture is solely responsible for the actions of so many kids. I put the majority of the blame on the parents, where I feel it squarely belongs. |

I agree, I think children live what they know, so if they have deadbeat parents, they'll often turn into one, if their parents are criminals, they may very well be too. If they are raised in the hood, they will probably continue to live in the hood., etc. These are all patterns that need to be broken. Sure, a teacher could try to teach good morals etc, and sometimes they do have an affect on a child that would otherwise turn out like their parents but sadly most of the time they don't. As Dr. Phil says, "Children are a blank slate, you write on that slate everyday by your actions and you create what they become."

To those of you who are old enuff to remember . . . as a society, we have had various programs instituted (by the Feds - and thus, your tax $$$) to address the issues of poverty and disenfranchisement that seem to breed these thugs.
Anyone remember when "Midnite Basketball" was instituted? And most of you are too young to remember when we did not have such programs as "Head Start" etc. As a society, we have been trying to figure out ways to stem the tide of thug development at the grassroots level for over 40 years now. Yes, 40 years. After School Programs, nutritional programs, and all the various programs from faith-based organizations or NGOs . . . Big Brother/Big Sister, YMCA, Salvation Army, on and on. Then you add to it how living like a gangsta has become glamourized . . . the evolution over 40 years has not been to - "let's be all we can be" - it has been to - "Let's take all we can take." I hope the efforts to address poverty and disenfranchisement have helped at least some of the folks who have been struggling out there. But you mix in mental illness such as social affective disorder and psycho-social disorders . . . and you still end up w/ thugs who have no conscience and do not treasure or respect human life - including their own family's lives! Add drugs to the mix . . . There's an attitude out there. Did you see the way those jerks who were caught after the car chase through Huntersville reacted to the cameras? They were laughing!!! Yeah, so funny. All a lark. Break in doors, rip off the SUCKAS who live there (their attitude - they think we are are SUCKAS), steal a few vehicles and try to outrun law enforcement, w/ no regard for innocent citizens who could have been killed along the way . . . These guys were all under 20 y/o!!! They do not care what you and I think! They are parasitic! Why don't we point a nice basketball court out to them where they can go shoot some hoops? Yep, that'll do it. That - and some public housing and some free job training. Sho nuff. Been working great so far. ![]() |

I don't know if the general public is aware that if a student is in "Special Education", the family qualifies for SSI benefits. Special Education includes children that have behavioral problems, many of whom are just plain mean, obnoxious animals without feelings. When I worked in inner city schools, a problem was that mothers (most of whom were the 'single inner city moms') did not want teachers to report improvement in their brat's behavior nor did they want their brat to improve as they would be taken out of the Special Ed. program and SSI would be lost. Our government is paying mothers to have disruptive children and paying special education educators for teaching students with an average classroom of eight out of control children. Aditionally, regardless of how disruptive or violent a special ed. student is, he/she can only be expelled from school for a maximum of 10 days per year. You can bet your bippie that these horrible kids are the ones that are in class all the time because the mom doesn't want them home or due to a court order. This country needs to get serious and throw the trash away forever and kep them in cages without the color televisions and weight rooms

Until we get responsible parents who are actually interested in their children's growth and development . . . we are not going to see children who are "put on track" by schools. Parental involvement is key. |

Actually what we should do is outsource all of our violent felons to Turkey. We could have them deal with them & not release them until their terms were completed. We could save millions of dollars & the Turks would make a fair profit. Everyone would be happy. It would be quite an effective threat. Do the crime & you get thrown back in a Turkish prison.

I agree with the chain gang and "hard labor" . Maybe cleaning the streets in towns will also cause some embarassment to them for their crimes. The punishment they now have is to easy for them....its more like 3 hots and a cott.
