Noisy rooster in Cornelius - can anything be done?
Okay, so I move into a lovely place in Cornelius and everything apart from one thing is good..... it wasn't until I moved in I began to hear a noisy rooster from across the road (through some trees - not in this development)
Here is the thing - they have probably had this rooster for a while and here I come in, not happy to hear it. There was no way for me to know it did it's morning sound at first light many, many times an hour as I never heard the blasted thing when I visited the property before renting it for a year.
Is there anything that can be done? They are not part of the homeowners association or this development so are there any noise pollution laws in this area or the state?
I do really feel bad moaning about it.... they were here first.. I come in... don't like it...moan moan moan.... but you know, there must be other people annoyed with it? Maybe I am just not used to country sounds!

I'll be no help...I live in a rural area, and love the sound of roosters crowing.
It's no different than the owls whooing or the birds singing and chirping early in the morning.
I wouldn't raise a stink...like you said, it was there before you were.

There is nothing you can do about it.
A rooster crows real early in the morning and they have been doing that since the beginning of time.
It's a natural thing.
The rooster crows early because he knows once the hens wake up he won't be able to get a word in edgewise.

Hahahaha! Excellent!
I too love the sound of roosters crowing. It's probably not considered noise pollution, so you may have to get used to it.
Has anyone started to hear whip-poor-wills at dusk and dawn? They hunt at night and live near forested areas, in leaves and such that accumulate on the forest floor. Their sound is beautifully haunting. Can't wait to hear them again.

Yes...get use to the sounds of living in the country!! It's life here. It beats the heck out of sirens or helicopters flying overhead all day and night! You will adjust. Besides, unless you work the night shift the mornings are beautiful here. I love waking up to the sounds of nature--roosters being one of those sounds. I moved from CA where all I heard was gun shots, sirens and helicopters day and night---these sounds here are wonderful!! If you try to appreciate the sound of the roosters you will adjust and it won't annoy you as much like an alarm!

I'm surprised nobody suggested a pellet gun
Just kidding, you'll get used to it.

Oh, my. This can be a real challenge for someone not use to it!
I get up at sunrise myself, so the rooster would be part of my morning routine anyway! If it truly disturbs your sleep and you don't want to get up at 5 am . . . here are some suggestions.
Don't keep your windows open at nite.
Get a white-sound machine and see if that drowns it out.
Another idea - sometimes a small waterfall can help. You can get a table top model and that may help screen out the sound while you are sleeping.
Don't feel bad about moaning on this one. Yes, we tell newcomers to try to adjust and fit in, but a crowing rooster is definitely interruptive to sound sleep.
Good luck!!!

Are they supposed to crow all day too or just in the morning?

It will probably get worse. Here in Florida, Mexicans are buying chickens and they are running all over the place, banks, parking lots, etc. At least there is always emergency food if you need it. They will probably end up in your yard before long.
