cball, I think it is worse than that - they do these crimes because they don't CARE if they are caught. For many a life of going in and out of jail is how they get their "street cred". They think this makes them tough. They are really that ignorant! Pathetic isn't it, that that would be all a young man would aspire to in life.

I totally agree. They don't care. If they did... they would not make these choices. To bad that when they were caught the 1st or 2nd time something more serious didn't happen to them to make them think a little differently. I guess I meant... who would let someone out of a halfway house to look for work when no one would hire a convict still on probation so tight they are in a halfway house? Who is in charge of approving these job hunt leaves?

Oh - the politics in this state are very interesting and not always so predictable! Plus, we have endured some serious gerrymandering w/ districts over the years . . .
This is an historically DEM state, but the registration varies back and forth and depending on what county you are in . . . there can be very clear cut majorities for either party. And we also have a lot of INDs who are usually the determining factor in state elections.
The biggest DEM influence is right around that I-95 corridor, tho. But then you have these pockets - like Yancey County (western part of state). They even refused to denounce ole King George back in the Rev War, if I remember correctly. The history of this state is truly a study in contrasts.
Historically, Raleigh politics have been dominated by eastern NC democrats . . . and they look after their own, wh/ means the $$$ get spent on pet projects from Raleigh east. Used to be tobacco money . . . oh my goodness. I could write about this subject ad infinitum (ad nauseum, LOL). My dad served in the General Assembly back in the 60s and early 70s - GOP.
We gotta get some representation in Raleigh who will steer the money our way so we can get help for the DAs office . . . and stop this "catch and release" program we have going w/ these THUGS!!!!!

CBall - it is past ludicrous, isn't it? My thoughts exactly - who would hire these dudes? What they should do is put them to work for the city - at minimum wage - cleaning up stuff like Graffiti and litter. Looks like that way they could charge something for rent at the halfway house. And ankle bracelets.
Heck, why spend the money on ankle bracelets. Just put CHIPS in them. If you can do that to a pet, why can't you track a thug that way?

Seems like the obvious thing to do doesn't it? They could start rebuilding the communities they are destroying by working and their pay would cover part of the cost of the burden they are causing by being in the system. Why is there such a lack of fear of the criminal justice system? When did the scarlet letter go out of style for criminals?

Sounds a bit like Jersey, minus the King George thing. Except NJ has become predictable. They keep pumping money down the inner city education rat hole with no progress. Don't get me started on the state employee pension troft where the pigs come to eat.

I can't believe I just read that. The times are ripe though for that sort of thing and the technology is here. Such chipping would be prudent for many types of criminals. But wow, it's crazy to see people wishing for such a thing. But alas, sign of the times.....

If it actually came up and I had to vote on whether or not that is an acceptable thing to do . . . I probably would say it is unconstitutional and would vocally advocate against it!!! But I am feeling so disgusted about our "catch and release" policy . . . I was just mouthing off.

Actually, that was the only thing I was referring to. Thus my reference to "sign of the times."

Hee Hee Hee. Wish we were neighbors, Y. I can see the neighborhood BBQs and all the discussions going on, LOL. I really enjoy this type of repartee.
And you know - sometimes good ideas come out of comparing what has worked (as well as failed) in other jurisdictions throughout the country.
