Yeah I live in 28269 about 2-3 miles from Bexley. The area is nice for the money. Great convenience, close to Concord/Davidson for shopping. Northlake area is growing fast, too. There are car break-ins in the area but not overwhelming. You could do better, maybe farther away for your budget. I have lived in 28269 since moving to CLT over 2 yrs ago and enjoy it. So far, nothing stolen. Just be normally cautious (that sounds stupid). The area is growing fast and lots of new retail and eating establishments. Lots of families, too. Good luck wherever you end up and welcome to Charlotte........

Working in uptown (there really isn't a downtown, they are kind of one in the same), you have lots of options, off Harris, you have a 20 min commute, in SC, its more like 30-35, depending on where. Key is what do you want to do. I like the convenience of Harris and still head there from Huntersville.

Charlotte doesn't have a 'Downtown"...the proper name is Uptown Charlotte. It use to be called Downtown but that changed in the late 1980's. Alot of old timers still call it Downtown....but ALL the signs say "Welcome to Uptown Charlotte".

Kinda of a unique city. You should really consider living Uptown...THE safest area of the entire city!

GOOD LUCK!

New Member,

I live in that zip code, in a subdivision close to you.

You will need to be concerned about safety no matter where you do. I'm not sure why so many people on this board attempt to scare people about the NE/University area.
I moved here almost 3 years ago, it is close to grocery stores, shopping, movie theaters, etc... If you will be driving to uptown, you can take the streets and be there in about 15 min. I went to the Bobcats games this year and it was a 12 min trip from my garage.

Would take a little longer than 15 minutes to get Uptown during rush hour.

If you live Uptown...you can walk to everything mentioned above...and work too!

Save on gas & parking too!

28269 is in the university area along WT Harris. There are apartments across from Davis Lake Drive that have garages. There are others in the area where some have garages (either attached or detached). GET AN APARTMENT WITH A GARAGE and put your car in every night. Also, don't get a ground floor apartment; harder for the thieves to hit higher up. Also, 2nd floor up gives you a better sniper position when taking down thugs (ok, only kidding)....

Probably true. I take the streets to go uptown rather than the freeway. They might have more traffic during commute hours also. For parking, I see shuttle buses that seem pretty full going uptown every day. The newcomer might be from an area where people are used to taking public transportation to work.

It also depends on the lifestyle the person wants and their age. I'm not sure that I would want to live uptown as a single woman in my 30s. But if I were just out of college and liked to hang out in bars, I might want to be in the center of things.

I thought condos uptown were renting or 1200+ a month?

Going down N. Tryon St. might be faster. I use to work for years at Wachovia CIC on Harris Blvd at IBM Drive and do the reverse commute from Uptown.

I was just suggesting to live Uptown to save on gas & wear & tear on your car and nerves and to save on parking for their Uptown job. Plus Uptown is very very safe and they could walk to work, restaurants, clubs, soon to be bowling & Movie theater. Also there are alot of young single professionals Uptown.

Alexander Michaels is a cool place for locals to hang out in 4th Ward.

Uptown is a bit more expensive than Harris, $250+ more, plus you don't have the "greenary". Mind you I would live uptown now, but its not for everyone, it is louder and less trees.

My commute from Harris/Sugar Creek to Trade and Cedar during rush hour was 20 min or so, and I took 77.
