I think maybe I've narrowed down our home search to these 2 towns. My husbands new company will be on the SW side of Charlotte, so Fort Mill would be 15 miles south on 77. Weddington would be east on 485. Which would be the better commute? Anyone have any ideas? And is there anything to consider when living in South Carolina and working in North Carolina? Thanks again for your time!

Ft Mill would be the better option. Dealing with that stretch on 485 to weddington can be quite a hassle.

there are short cuts to 77 that a lot of people use in our neighborhood and we are in the waxhaw/weddington area. you can take 521 to 160 to 77 and it drops you out near carowinds and by passes a lot of commute horror. Of course I'm partial to this area, but also as a relocatee it has been a fabulous choice if you are looking for neighbors who value education, family, property values and friendship.

I agree with Fort Mill being the better option.

If you would like I can setup a search for you that will show you all of the homes available that meet your criteria.

PM me if interested.

Best Wishes and Happy New Year!

Yes, those are the things we value, so Weddington is still in the running. What area do you live in and do you like the school system? A house we really like is Parkwood Highschool, any input?

I have heard before to stay away from 485, so that is definitely something to consider since everyone seems to have the same opinion of 485, LOL! Thanks!

parkwood is much more rural, and from what I've heard most people don't want to have their kids go there, although that is because the choices of Weddington and the new middle and high school off of crane road are considered better. That would be kensington, weddington, sandy ridge elementary schools zoned to the new middle, weddington middle and new high with weddington high.... hope that helps.

I agree. From my experience, nobody wants Parkwood...
