And I was really hoping for a few tips, too.

I want to mention - the owner of Ed's Tavern is a friend of mine, and I hope people will head over there and check the place out! Management is very interested in creating a neighborhood atmosphere . . . and has worked hard to make Ed's a great place to meet and greet.

Phooey
I was hoping for something besides the "bar scene" I don't drink, and don't like to hang out at bars or other places of that sort.
I was hoping for a sober way of meeting people.

You don't have to drink to hang at Ed's. They have a decent menu - all freshly prepared food, no frozen junk - and people hang out there who are not necessarily drinking - just watching Sports. Pool tables, too. So don't feel you have to drink to hang there.

I played the bar scene sober for many years. All I found there were drunk women gold digging, and "party girls". Being sober and the rest of the people are drunk gave me an advantage in getting phone numbers. But in the 14 years I have been single, I have found bars are not a good place to meet quality people. And trying to find non drinkers at a bar is like going to the desert expecting to find ice.
Don't get me wrong, the trivia thing is a great idea. Good way to tell if your talking to an idiot or not.
Edit: I'd rather spend my money on out door activities, or my hot rod.

The trivia scene at Eds has been going on for a while now, I've been going for at least the last 18 months and when the trivia 'question-meister' was the girl from 106.5 The End. I think her name is Kristen? Anyway the girl who DJ's 'Win jackmans's stuff' with Jack on the radio at about 5-ish each day. She doesn't do the trivia much now a days ever since she went off and decided to have kids!
Good atmosphere though and yes I'd have to agree with the Observer article, a great way to segway into meeting new people....Heck I've even been known to win the occasional bucket of beer as a prize for winning a round or two with my team! The funniest thing about the trivia evening though is making up your teams name. There seems to be alot of 'out of the box' thought put into some funny/raunchy/topical team names which seems to add to the whole evening.......
