Just because the OP does not want a religious preschool does not necessarily mean that s/he sees a problem with religion.
My child does attend a preschool with a religious affiliation, but I was VERY nervous about that at first. I have no problem with religion but am very wary of other people teaching my child about religion when I am not present... as religious philosophies, etc. can differ widely. I ended up finding a place that I am comfortable with for now.
Anyway, there are good and valid reasons to want a preschool that doesn't get into religion, whether we are in the South or not, and it's a perfectly valid question to ask for recommendations for a non-religious preschool without having to explain oneself.

You can find child care in your area by using the NC Division of Child Development's search tool. You can also view each center's license information, ratios, complaints, state violations and actions taken.

My take on the religious experience
As I am the OP, I will explain my desire to not have my daughter in a religious program to those who feel they need to make their presence felt.
I have moved to the South, and I have done so with passion and purpose. I am an extremely spiritual person and have my own religious beliefs. I will not impress my beliefs on anyone. I do not expect anyone to impress their beliefs on me. I have and will continue to teach my daughter that people have very different ideas about God and the meaning and purpose of life. I will not impose my own beliefs on my child. I have and will continue to raise her in the confines of my home with the highest moral and ethical standards. I will show her what it is that I believe in. I will let her make her own decisions on her spiritual path. I will support her in making those decisions and then I will support her decision. That is my duty as a parent. As stated in a previous post, I do not want a stranger, friend, or even immediate family member attempting to sway my daughter down a path not of her choosing. I will ensure that she is well informed about her choices and will give her a strong theological base of knowledge. She will make her own decision.
Regards and respect to all who have chosen to voice on this topic,
Sean J Feeney
