Lake Norman Area
I'am from LI NY, and reseaching this area, particularly zip code 28117. The schools in that zip code rate excellent on these website:
www.ncreportcards.org & www.greatschools.net
Our main concerns are schools, crime, quality of life conveniences ( proximity & availibility to shopping, entertainment, etc.) kid activities (extra curricular, sports, etc.)
Thanking you in advance for any feed back.

I live in the Lake Norman area. Trust me there is an abundance of Shopping with the new mall just down the road and the Birkdale area for shopping. There are many sports activities to plug your children in. My oldest is 5 so we are really getting into this circuit now but it is out there.
I have lived here for 20 years and have no reason to leave I really enjoy life here. Sometimes I wonder if there is a better place for me but the more I look at things I realize I am lucky to be in a decent place to raise my family.
Good Luck on your decision should you need anything else please let me know.

Lake Norman area is the hot spot right now for growth. Huge transplant area now. Counties of Iredell, Catawba, Lincoln, Mecklenburg, some of Gaston surround Lake Norman. Cities of Charlotte, Mooresville, Troutman, Denver, Huntersville, Cornelius, Davidson are pretty much on or in close proximity to the lake.
If you want to shop, you wont have a problem. New Northlake mall in northern Mecklenburg county, Birkdale in Huntersville...and ofcourse your Target and Walmarts scattered about like everywhere else in the country.
You are forewarned now about the growth and traffic.

My son and his wife (former Long Islanders) live in Mooresville. They have been there for eight years and love it. They have two sons and are very happy with the schools and the community they live in.
My son works for Carrier as HVAC mechanic and my daughter in law works for the Davidson YMCA. They are able to survive and thrive here, where they couldn't on Long Island.
My daughter moved to Mooresville two yrs ago and is very happy that she did. She and her dh are about to have a baby girl. My daughter has a blood condition so her pregnancy is high risk. She is very happy with her doctors and the hospital. Her primary physician knew about her rare blood condition and how to treat it. That wasn't always the case in NY.So in my humble opinion the medical community is very good there too.
Mooresville and Lake Norman have grown leaps and bounds since my son first moved there. It continues to grow .My son jokes and calls it the "Nassau County" of Charlotte. So if you want more of a "country living" you may want to look at other areas.
My husband and I would like to move to NC eventually. I would like to look into country living in Union County. My dh likes Mooresville. He said he doesn't want to spend a half hour to run to Lowe's etc... Yet I'm sure other counties will continue to grow as well.I just hope not too much. look what has happened to Long Island.
Good luck with your choices.

We love this area and have been long time residents of ...oh...45 days. We moved from Arizona and haven't looked back once.
We live on the "quiet side" of Lake Norman in Denver. Love it here and love the schools. Kids had no issues and it was a smooth transition.
Good luck to you.

Hi Ben!
I'm a life-long NY'r that moved to Mooresville 4 mths ago...we LOVE it here! Never thought I'd ever move out of NY, now you couldn't pay me to move there! We have no regrets about our decission to move to NC. We live in the 28115 side of town, east of I 77. It's a bit quieter & less crowded over here, more rural.
I have 1 son, a high school freshman who is doing very well in school. We chose Iredell county because of the schools here (avoid Mecklenberg county). There is tons of shopping only a short drive from me, where I can get pretty much anything I need or want. Yeah, there's some of the big box stores, but they're everywhere in the USA. There is lots to do in the area & beyond (think day trips...a hour or so to the mountains, etc...) We've been gathering up brochures to start doing some sight-seeing. The weather is near perfect. I enjoyed putting up my outdoor Christmas decorations in flip-flops & a t-shirt instead of freezing! LOL!! We are lucky to have good neighbors. Everyone, natives & transplants, are so warm & friendly. It really is home.
Find what's right for you & Good Luck with your search!
Rosann

Commute?
What kind of commute are you going to have for work? We moved to the area and ended up in Huntersville because of commute to Charlotte and traveling to other parts of NC to the north and east. Traffic picks up on I-77 heading north at exit 23. I'm glad we weren't further north because of that...

I am moving from Long island in 49 days ( but whose counting) I cannot wait to get there. You will love the Mooresville area. I am moving just a few miles north in Troutman but i am minutes away from everything. Although I have no children in school ( all done with that) I hear nothing but great things about the schools in Iredell county. Just wanted to lend my 2 cents
