Anyone know anything about LOCUST?
Found another small town that was recommended to me by a friend who lives in Norwood (Norwood is too far a commute to Charlotte). Anyone live in or around Locust? Again, I'm looking for small town feel, 3-4 bedroom home in the 160-180 price range (really old is ok), great schools, sports, safe community, etc.....(pretty much the same thing everyone is looking for....LOL). Thanks for any info/advice. My husbands office is located South of Charlotte, but he's a construction superintendent and would not be going to the office on a daily basis ~ only to his jobsite which will change constantly. Thanks sooooooooo much!

Charlotte is the right forum since Locust is only 25 miles east of Charlotte.
I bet the responses are slow coming due to the holiday. Give it a couple of more days.
Sorry I don't have any familiarity with it myself. Did you check out Locust NC dot com?
Good luck with your search!
Sinccerely,
SL

This response may be too late, but I will give my input just in case. I live right outside of Locust and if you are looking for a small town feel right outside the city limits this is the place. It is close to the interestate for easy commutes to city attractions and/or employment. The town is growing but it think it's a great place to start out at. Plus, the area is full of construction that may be helpful to your husband's career. If you haven't checked out the website ( Locust NC City, with a soul ) for the town you should. It is very informative about what's going on. Good luck!

There is a new development just being built that will have what your looking for. My friend works for the company and I've seen the layout. It looks real nice... Unfortunately it won't be ready for another year or so.

I lived in Stanly County for about a year. I lived in a town right outside of Locust called Red Cross. Locust is the "largest" city in western Stanly County, with a bunch of smaller towns and unincorporated communites around it. It is almost completely white (as are the smaller towns around it). In fact, I think I only saw 3 other black people the whole time I lived there. I was the only black person living in Red Cross while I was there, but didn't bother nobody and nobody bothered me. I moved out there for the cheap cost of living, and I must say, it was nice to get away from the noise of Charlotte I had lived in all my life. Highway 24/27 will take you into the heart of Charlotte to work or play, and it also crosses I-485, (which will eventually loop around Charlotte; 2/3 completed)which takes you to I-77 and I-85. If you like rural living, with easy access to a big city, Locust is for you. Stanly County also have some great small town diners, if that sort of thing appeals to you.

Super old thread, wow. Anyway, fwiw to newcomers with similar prospects, Mount Pleasant is another viable option in the country yet convenient to Charlotte.
