Don't cross the border..new crime program in SC..WDYT?
Did anyone just see the news on WSOC-TV? South Carolina..York County just rolled out a new program warning criminals to not cross the border into SC from NC b/c they take crime more seriously in SC. They said that they will not let criminals out of bond and they will be arrested the first time and can expect to do more time in jail then those criminals in the Charlotte area. The police force went on air saying that we are not like Mecklenburg county we will move you through the courts, etc. The have a big billboard up over the line and it showed pics of those that they recently caught. Supposedly their latest was a man that has been robbing tons of banks since the 70's in the Charlotte area and he just robbed one bank in SC and they put him in jail for life. What a difference in their prosecution systems! Makes me wonder if NC will step up to the plate now ...I would think they are embarrassed by being called out like this. They said SC does not want Charlotte's problems anymore!
I also wonder if crime will now increase even more in the south charlotte area b/c the criminals aren't going to want to cross the line now and be put in jail!

This has been in the works for a while. Nothing will change as far as here in CLT, but after a few thugs get the hard fist of the law imposed on them in SC, it probably will slow down crime there. I am all for it.

Bark - This will come in quite handy at Halloween. Instead of stuffing some clothes with rags to make the "bogeyman", you can have a "real" one sitting next to those pumpkins! I hope it's real cold at that time!

MJ, I have been waiting all afternoon since seeing this story at noon for it to post on WSOC's website so I could post it here!
I wanted to just shout, WAY TO GO SOUTH CAROLINA! I LOVE how they are purposely trying to embarrass the NC legislature to bring attention to our troubles here. I also LOVED hearing how the people they arrest there don't get released and do get hard time - what a concept!

loves - Whatever happened to those "chain gangs" that used to be one of those "iconic images" of the South? Time to bring back an old tradition!

Time to bring back a lot of old South images, such as the homeowner who will shoot if an intruder threatens his family.

No "work details" there, Emissary? South Jersey has been using them for years. No balls & chains, but you see them out with the armed guards.
