I agree on Southend - it's a neat area that has alot of character.

I love Southpark especially Phillips Place. Southend is wonderful too, I lived in Olmsted Park 12 years ago. Check out East Boulevard. Paper Skyscraper is the coolest shop in the country, the Thai place next door was a staple for me! Starbucks and Caribou within blocks of each other on East Boulevard. Is Talley's Green Grocery still around?

Yes, Talley's is still there, but the founder/original owner sold it to a different family a few years ago. Berrybrook Farms is still across the street too.

If you are from Grand Forks, South Dakota crime in uptown Charlotte will look pretty bad. On the other hand, if you are from Philadelphia or Atlanta, it is as safe as Mayberry. Comparitively safe for a large city.

Definitely...but a lot of major cities downtown is the safest place to be. I'd rather be in downtown Detroit than any other part of the city, that's for sure.
