You may want to consider the Ballantyne area of Charlotte, it is adjacent to Pineville and very nice. You may also want to consider staying in SC if you're buying a house, as property taxes are already lower than NC and going to be lowered even further, especially if you're going to be working in SC anyway. Fort Mill is a nice town and has really good schools from what I hear.

Don't know if you also have kids, but I wouldn't put my kids in the Pineville public schools. I would definitely go with Fort Mill. The homes are more affordable, the property taxes are low (except on vehicles) and the school system has an excellent reputation.

There's also Indian Trail. I've heard mixed reviews about the schools. It might be worth looking into.

No such thing as Pineville Public Schools...it is Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools.

I would highly suggest Fort Mill! Best Schools in the southern metro area. Very highly rated schools.

Pineville actually starts at Trio Restaurant...so from McMullen Creek market all the way to the SC state line going towards Fort Mill is Pineville City. Those areas have a Charlotte address...but the CMC hospital on Park Rd is also in Pineville.

Pineville is totally fine...but I would move to Fort Mill and enjoy all the conveniences of Pineville.

Sorry, I meant 'the public schools that Pineville is zoned to'. I'll try to be more specific.

No problem. I don't have kids and I am not from Charlotte. I have lived in Charlotte for 16 years and parents have been fighting for 16 years about something. I am from Winston-Salem (not a small city) and they don't have 95% of the issues and problems this district has. I know it is smaller but parents don't raise cane about everything like here. I am sure some points are valid...some are probably trivial too.

I agree. Some complaints are warranted and some are not, but all I care about when it comes to my kids' school are safety (violence, bullying, etc...), class size, learning opportunities (talent development programs, languages, art, music, etc...).

High test scores don't always mean that it's a better school. Sometimes it means that there's a more educationally motivated population in that area where parents are more involved and such.

In the end, it depends on the child, the parent and the teacher. It has little to do with the school board, the superintendant, or school administrators or anything else the media or parents like to focus on. They help put the infrastructure in place, but they don't read to your child each night or practice their math facts, etc...

Default Traditions in Pineville

I moved into the subdivision in February and LOVE it
The neighbors are great and the sales office has been fantastic. They really went above and beyond to help us with the closing and moving in. The neighborhood is very quiet, kids are out playing and riding bikes. The train comes through several times a day, but the noise is not that bad. We actually enjoy hearing it to be honest
While there is not a lot of "night life" here, we have no problem heading uptown if we want a night out. Shopping is only minutes away...Target, Carolina Place Mall, Harris Teeter, etc.
I work in Ballantyne and the homes there are way overpriced. From Traditions I only have a 15 min. commute at most. It is very convenient to 485 and 77.

Let me know if you have any more questions!

You may want to do a search about the Traditions neighborhood on this site if you plan to move there, I seem to remember a while back there was someone who had some trouble with the builder.

I can also suggest that if you do like Pineville, there is a great new development that is being built by John Weiland where the old Crystal Creek golf course used to be which is right down the main road on the state line. From what I understand some of the homes will be in SC and some in NC.

Pineville is a great place to live (I've been there for a few years now). Quiet and peaceful, with really nice people - many families who have lived there for years. There are great events at the park -- festivals, movies, concerts, fireworks, summer camps, etc. The town is constantly improving things, including moving utilities underground and laying fiberoptic for future use.

The best streets in Pineville are Lynnwood Ln and Lakeview Dr, on the circle past the park and nursing home. Quiet and beautiful, with 100-ft pine trees throughout the neighborhood.

An educational consultant told me that Pineville Elementary is a really good school, due to it's stability (zoning/boundaries are not constantly changing like in other areas), a good principal, and diversity -- it's also a true "community" school unlike some others which are much larger and constantly changing.

Pineville is a nice blend of a small town atmosphere with access to everything within a few minutes -- a great combination IMO. :-)
