Bad area. Lots of crime in SW Charlotte. Charlotte schools had their worst year to date crime wise. Broke a 10 year record for guns on campus in only 4 months and they mandated clear backpacks for all students. Not a place I'd want to teach and as someone who lived in SW Charlotte.. don't

While this would not be classified as the "best" area of Charlotte, a previous poster (NDL) mentioning the gentrification of the area would be most accurate.

The schools in SW Charlotte are not ranked among the best in the CMS system, hence why they are attempting to hire recent college grads with qualifications that would be an enhancement to the neighborhoods. The best way to decide whether your daughter wishes to work there is to visit for a few days if possible.

This link may help if crime will be foremost in your decision on any area of Charlotte.

Get a Charlotte demographics map. the more diverse the area, the more challenging it will be as a teacher. If you like a challenge with a bit of danger and excitement, go for the most diverse. You won't be bored. Apparently, Renaissance Park is still a pretty "exciting" area to teach. Westside Charlotte schools are very exciting followed by eastside. Wink wink.

I had a family member that got a degree to teach and after a few years in some "challenging" areas in Charlotte she quit her job and became a police officer.

I'd tell your daughter to look north of Charlotte from Huntersville, Denver, Cornelius, Davidson and Mooresville personally if she wants to be in this area and be a teacher.

Probably fair to say that specific area is “gentrifying,” although I think it’s primarily gentrifying with office parks and such. The schools in the area may not be the greatest. It is nearby to Steele Creek which is more suburban and a decent area but does have a little crime (Sweetbottoms lived there and likes to bash it). Also nearby to some of the trendier in-town neighborhoods like Montford/Madison Park and Sedgefield.
