Does anyone have any information as to cost and options available in obtaining health insurance (family coverage).

Are you looking at Short term, individual or group or cost or info regarding employer info?
If you are looking for short term
BCBS of NC
same for individual
try blue cross blue shield of NC

I am looking for individual health coverage. My husband is a sole propietor (no employees). It is not short term.
I currently have BCBS with my employer here in NY, but if we move to NC I will not be working. I can go on cobra for 18 months.

Probably cheaper to just do BCBS of NC instead of COBRA. You can get some quotes on their website you might need a zip code for NC to get some quotes or contact them directly. I think for our family when I was looking it was about 700 month for a PPO plan, with a low deductible (Out of pocket max included the deductible and copays) and it only applied if you went into the hospital. The only thing is I am pretty sure it has to be underwritten and it can take a month or 2 for them to approve you so I would get some ideas soon or you could do shortterm in the mean time which with BCBS again it was cheaper for us than doing COBRA with our previous insurance and then you can go long term. It was just basic with a 1000 deductible that it paid 100% after you met that deductible..I don't remember what it included but for 2 adults and 3 kids (we are fairly young) it was about 500 for 90 days of short term coverage. We just wanted accident protection essentially in case something happened.
I hope this helped..we waded through the insurance thing too...

Default health ins

Thanks for the useful info, resident.
I will contact them this week to get quotes and the procedure of transitioning from my existing BCBS plan. Maybe it will be smooth since I am already a member under my firms plan.
