How about at a golf course or something. I got my start as a caddie in NY, but they don't really have those here. Maybe working on the driving range or in cart distribution / cleanup.
My daughter was facing the same dilemma.
Last Summer, she made a lot of money babysitting, dog walking, house sitting, etc.
This Summer she wants to do those jobs again but get a "real one" too!!!
It is amazing the amount of jobs 14 year olds are actually able to do but the trouble is, a lot of places will not hire them.
My daughter just got hired by the store "Sweet and Sassy." She is beyond thrilled. Did her first training this evening.
I heard about this on the radio and it is being sponsored by Goodwill.
It is for 14 year olds and up. You have to complete an online form and then they contact you with an interview date. They have employers listed who will take 14 years old.
I gotta say Chic Fil A is one of the most admirable places of business I've ever been in. Quality of service is superb and I don't think I've ever left one disappointed. Especially the one at Cotswold, that's my favorite.
I'd definitely recommend a job a Chic Fil A--I've seen people in there all through high school, so he'd probably learn some great leadership skills.
In NC a teenager has to get a work permit to be able to apply for a job (get the app thru the school guidance counselor). They have to be 15 - by law no business can hire anyone under 15, and many won't hire until they are 16. Chick Fil A is one of those that will hire 15 year olds, just so you know. For the under 15 crowd there is always babysitting and lawn cutting
did the law change? Used to be a manager at Chick fil A and not only did we hire 14 yr olds, but, both of my sons got their work permits on their 14th birthdays.....

Many library systems will hire pages as young as 14. Pages are the folks you typically see shelving books and straightening shelves and tables around the library. Not very exciting work but a good place to start.
You'll have to contact PLCMC to see if they hire pages through the main HR department or at the actual branches. Unfortunately, it looks like they are in a hiring freeze for the time being so I doubt there will be anything available.
Just make the kid do a bunch of chores around the house! That will get him on the right track! Thats what my mom did to me! We had a list checked it twice and got everything done before she came home from work! Chores at home is a good place to start. Pay him minimum wage and open a savings account for him. Start saving now, soon there won't be a stock market to invest in or it atleast wont be worth it.
