First Time Home Buyer's Seminar?
Does anyone know where DH and I can take a first time home buyer's seminar?
We were out looking at open houses this weekend, and I realize that there is so much that I need to learn about buying a home. I'd like to educate myself a little before we even sit down with a lender.
I searched this forum for "first time home buyer's seminar" but I didn't get any results.
TIA for your help!

I think habitat for humanity may offer something but it may also just be if you are trying to get one of the homes they offer. A strong RE Agent that works for you (Buyers Agent) would be a good idea too. They work for you and should guide you through the process.

Hi citri! I don't know of a seminar, but there is much valuable info found on the US Housing and Urban Development website if you are into self-educating before you move forward with the process. The site has one section specifically about home buying. This might move you along toward your goal of informing yourself until you do find a seminar you are interesested in attending. The site pushes FHA loans, but that's cool. I think the section on settlement costs is great for folks who don't know much about that subject.
Best wishes on your endeavor.

Thanks for all of your replies!
We definitely want to educate ourselves before we "get serious" about buying. I know we have a lot to learn!

If you're considering Gaston County
There's a first-time buyer seminar there that will give you $5,000 towards the purchase of your home just for sitting thru the one day class from 9-1. And you don't pay it back as long as you stay in the home for a period of 5 years. They go over things like money management, what you can afford, etc. It's thru the City of Gastonia, but you can purchase in a number of Gastonia cities.

Thanks, Carolina Homefinder. That's good to know but I do think DH and I will probably stay in Charlotte proper in order to try and keep our commuting costs lower as well as take advantage of the light rail whenever we can.
