$5.50 by Labor Day, the schedule to raise the cost is likely already entered into the oil companies computers.

If we happen to have a gulf hurricane during the summer, then it will get to $5.50 sooner.

At a grocery store $1.50 to $2. It's about the same price to use synthetic now (which I use in my car; the quart I bought yesterday was for my fiance's car because hers burns oil and needs a quart every 3-4 weeks). The synthetic you can change every 6000 miles with a good filter.

Add hurricanes to an Iran showdown, and we're facing $10 per gallon my end year.

Why are more companies not offering work from home?

Would save money and better on the environment...not to mention the expensive office rent they could save with smaller offices?

if the speculators would just shut up the prices would remain stable. Its these morons on Wall Street that keep talking all this nonsense that drives the prices.

And how is it when it drops 5-6 dollars a barrel the prices at the pump do not reflect this.

Drill in Alaska, heck just take some equipment over there and watch the prices come down. America is to politically correct for its own good sometimes.

....steps of soap box!

[quote=carolina_guy;4042551]LOL...nothing to do with the president unless said president has the grapefruits to drill domestically, but to date they are too scared of treehuggers and caribou caressers.

For the record- President Bush has been a strong proponent ofdrilling in the Alaskan Reserve for years. It is the tree huggers and Caribou caressers in congress that have prohibited. My feel on the whole situation? There is not a politician anywhere that gives a rats rear about anyone lower than the upper class!

remember the gas crisis of the 70s? Why did we not force legislation to develop alternative energy sources then? Why? Because every single person in government is in bed with, or has a vested interest in oil and the automotive industry. At this point, speculators are the ones driving the price of oil through the roof. Only way to lower the price of oil is (1) increase supply, thereby lowering it's value (not likely that OPEC will do this, as they refuse to even discuss increasing production until they meet- in September!!), or (2)Decrease demand, thereby increasing supply. As the price of gas climbs higher, and people show even greater discretion in their trips, a tipping point will be reached, and prices will atl east stabilize.

Our best hope at ever reaching energy independence is to drill, drill, drill! Of course, understanding it will still take time for new sources to reach the market, I would brace yourself for high gas prices for the foreseeable future.- IMHO.

Yes he has, but has lacked the cohones to really push for it, until this year and now it's too late to help with our current situation. Like you said, even if we drill today, it would be quite a while for our wallets to get the relief.

Totally disagree. Oil is in ancinet technolgy we are still using. So many better, cheaper more efficinet forms of energy. We are still using oil and that's almost a two century old technology. It's time to make changes.

Would you mind fixing your post so I don't get credit for it.

And FWIW, I certainly agree we need newer, more efficient technology. Thus far, it seems that technology is the hybrid technology. Ethanol on the other hand, was pushed and pushed and turned out to be a complete bust.
