rudder is a great place for apps and a cold beer and watching the sun go down. It is not really a " restaurant" but the bar food is excellent. Midtown sundries is FTL.

I am thinking Rudder at this point because the atmosphere on the deck is nice but does anyone know how the food is or if another lake front restuarant blows them away?

Rudder has good views, but the food is really bad. They only serve fast foods like chicken fingers, really bad fried fish FFs, etc. On the other hand, Midtown Sundries serves descent food and has good views as well. Oh yea, Midtown has a larger variety of drinks at lower prices.

Vinnies is OK but not worth a trip from Charlotte. If I was going to eat seafood in that area, I probably would go to Big Daddy's even though it is not right on the lake.

There are about 5 or so places to eat on the lake right at hwy 150 where it crosses the lake on the main channel, and I think there is more at the next bridge near the Lake Norman Hotel.

Try the Landing on Mountain Creek, between slanting bridge and the railroad bridge, just to the North. It has better food than either the Rudder or Midtown. It is not gourmet or as pricy as North Harbor, but good. Also worth mentioning is the new restaurant at Midway Marina, on the South West end of the highway 150 bridge.

North Harbor Club, hands down is the best dining on the water.
Midtown and the Rudder are more pub type cuisine ... and just ok food really.
If you want great ribs or just a great burger...take a ride across the lake to the Landing.
Its a pub type atmostphere as well...but the food is better and it's a nice ride by boat.
Weekends there is always a wait for dinner.

If you ever want to go out for breakfast by boat, try the Midway Marina.
It's been recently remodeled and is a favorite place for breakfast and lunch.

There also used to be a little bait shack that was pretty cool at Ramsey Creek Park
that served homemade breakfast on weekends. You could go, they'd cook to order
and you could take it and sit at the Pier Gazebo and eat...have not been there in years,
so not sure if it is still there.

And if you just want to visit someplace totally cool....there is a floating bar at Queen's Landing.
You really have to visit it at least once. Another nice boat ride to come up and have a
Strawberry Daiquiri or whatever your beverage of choice...if you're out by boat.
You can drive there and walk out as well, but it's another neat boat ride across the lake.

We like to go to the Boathouse Grill... for breakfast. (Is that what you mean by "Midway Marina" ? Might be the same place )

The food at Midtown Sundries far exceeds that of the Rusty Rudder. The Rusty Rudder is a nice bar with a great lake view, but the food is fastfood that is fried and generally bad. Midtown Sundries serves some descent food. Although I have not been to the North Harbor Club, I have heard good things about it. I will try it in the near future. It is on exit 30 off of I-77. I have found some really good restaurants around the lake but not neccessarily on the water.
