I have this strange bug on the outside (thankfully) and we have no idea what it is.
Brown, thick longish body but a skinny head with long curly antennas that is bigger than its body. It has skinny legs sticking out on the sides.
Anyone?
I posted about it but couldn't take a picture as it was gone when I went outside.
It was back again and this time on my tree. It is the color of the tree so it is hard to see but you can see the long curly antennas which are tortoiseshell colored! And there are no cricket/grasshopper like legs on it, just skinny spidery legs. It has a cricket body though. And the darn thing flies which freaked out my husband it flew into his face. LOL Oh and hubby said it has mandibles which looked like it could "pinch/bite" him if he tried to pick it up.
We can diagnose what type of bug it is alot quicker if you take a digital photo of it.
What is it size in length and width?
I am assuming it only has six legs?
Are the legs longer than the body?
Does it have wings?
Does it make any noise?
I will get hubby to take one when he gets back. It is a mighty strange looking bug. And I am from Florida, place of teeming strange bugs. LOL
No noise heard though and it looks like no wings. He did say the legs were long and skinny out the sides. What tripped him out was the long flowing curly antennas that stuck out up and back on this bug.
I've had those too. The exterminator said they are earwigs. They freaked me out, looked too much like a scorpion with that curved up tail and double antennae. They love to hide in my mailbox. Yuck.
And here is one to see here, I couldn't get a better shot as this bug was the same color as the tree.
It is all tortoiseshell colored, even the long curly antennas. This bug moved its antennas all the the way to the front and to the back curling them under his body.
His body is similar to a cricket but has spidery thin short legs.
And he flies very well. He is about 2-3 inches long and thick. It had mandible/jaws with pinchers.
I am wondering how it got here since it is native to western US. But at last, I know what the wierd thing it!
