Welcome! I am from Miami too. I am a Cuban with a southern accent. What part of Miami are you living in now? What are you looking for in CLT other than just the schools. I have lived in Charlotte 25 years. You will love it here. I know about the special schools you want. And the homes in the area. Are you planning to visit Charlotte soon? I want to make sure she is challenged. I think we will probably look in the Mint Hill area since I will be working near Executive Center Drive. What do you think of Mint Hill Middle? Also does Bain Elementary have special ed? Is there any after school care facilities? How about transportation? I'm also looking into the Fletcher school and I think the other school is Dover. Any opinions? Finally, I'm also going to look for a Catholic School but I am concerned with transportation. We are leaving all our support network here in Miami and will be on our own. A big change for us.

We are Catholic but are members of our local JCC. Great gym, summer camp, programs, .... Does the JCC in Charlotte offer after school care and transportation?
Bain Elementary has had a great reputation for years Mint Hill Middle is only a few years old but seems to be enjoying a good reputation too. You would definitely want to visit both I think.

Fletcher and Dore also have really good reputations but can be very expensive and have some waiting lists for certain grades. I love Mint Hill and do recommend living there. However, it is not very convenient to any of the Catholic Schools. In addition, the Catholic Schools really serve the average to above average students the best. If you have a truly gifted child or a child needing special education the Catholic Schools are not your best choice.

The JCC is very nice here, but again, not convenient to Mint Hill. I am not aware of them offering any after school transportation. If they did I highly doubt it would extend over toward Mint Hill, they would have enough students just in their own immediate area to pick up. If the JCC is your top priority I would recommend you look to live closer to it. If you give us your price range I could make some neighborhood suggestions

Our price range is about $350,000.00 plus or minus. We need at least 5 bedrooms (lots of family will be visiting).
