I was hoping to get some pictures last night, but it got too late. We have a black powderly mold and a yellow bubbly mold growing in our front flower bed in front of our house. Any green thumbs on here have any ideas on how to attack it? I got a fungicide from the local nursery, but it's not working. We want to put down new mulch, but don't want to stir up all of the mold and cause a bigger problem.

Last spring we used hardwood mulch and last fall we used the Black dyed mulch. My mom thinks it is the kind of mulch we bought (first year we've had a problem).

Thanks!

While I don't know the answer to your woes, Jerry Baker will. I use to listen to him on public radio when I was a kid. He has 'home remedies' involving a host of weird ingredients for a wide range of different gardening problems.

Jerry Baker, America's Master Gardener®

I'm not sure the best way to contact him, maybe call into his show or search around on his website for answers.

Sound like the Dog Vomit Slime Mold I recently learned about on the Raleigh forum. It is a harmless fungus (or rather slime mold) that pops up in Mulch beds. You can read all about it here: Dog Vomit Fungus Page

Thank you, thank you, thank you. From what I've read it sounds like we'll just have to live with it. At least I know it's not the mulch itself, so we can stick with the same kind :-).

yep we got it here in Hickory this year too. It likes my shaded front mulch bed. I was wondering what it was called. We have the same mulch as last year but we didn't have as much as I have right now.

ewwwwwww at least you can't see mine from the street.
