My parents are coming to visit next month, and we want to celebrate my Mom's 70th Bday by doing something special. She likes Japanese things, including restaurants. Does anyone know of anything extra special we could do??? Something unique vs just going out to eat. Being new in town, I dont know what there is out there to choose from...Thanks in advance!

Kabutos entertains you and prepares your food in front of you. Bring the Grandkids they will get an extra kick out of the show.

Anyone have experience with a local limo company, maybe pick her up and take the 9 of us out to a restaurant? They hard to differentiate from just looking at websites. Thanks!

I did see in a mailing to me "Bon Odori Festival" (which is some Japanese festival), it is on Aug.2,...I don't know if thats too early ( you said next month). I know nothing about it, but I thought that may help. It is at the Wachovia Atrium and Plaza on S.Tryon uptown.

BTW...Daniel Stowe Gardens are fantastic. It might be nice to take your parents there if they can handle the heat & sun here. They opened up an Orchid Conservatory this year, which she may like. Plan yourselves a picnic. Cooler w/drinks & food, you can sit inside or outside. There are tables & chairs or bring a blankey. If there are children they will like the fountains. If your parents likes walking, & flowers & picnics this is a nice thing to share with them.

Catawba River Queen???? Have not been on it in years, so can't give personal recommendation. Maybe someone else will post and let you know if it is a good outing or not . . .
