Alpha Mill is fine but it is just outside 277. It would be a longer walk to the center of uptown and there isn't any retail or anything immediately around it.
Highland Mill in NoDa is great but if you are going to work uptown you will definitely have to drive/ride the bus from there. There are several bars/restaurants/shops within walking distance, though.
Arbors is a great location but the apartments are older and I assume the rent is higher than at either of the mills.

The Arbors is a lower price than Alpha Mills but Alpha Mills is practically new and has a lot of amenities. It is however off 12th street a little further from uptown than The Arbors is. Both have different advantages. I can't speak for the other Mill I have no idea what their price is. You can check both prices and sq ft out on the property management companies web page for The Arbors and Alpha Mill:

We live right off of 1st street, which runs into cedar street. The area feels safe with the exception of the rescue mission right down the road. Also, it is pretty loud from 77 running right across from frazier park.
The complex you're talking about seems nice. We walk by all the time. Short distance to town and restaurants.

Alright - I had my own thread going on for a while but I think it might be better if I jumped into this one since it appears to be more active. Here's my original post from my original thread:

Anyway, the station is located at 1 Julian Price Place. I've looked at a few maps, and I'm having a hard time telling if that area is considered "Charlotte" or "West Charlotte." Any help here would be great.
Also - I'm a 28 year-old, single male, and I'm trying to figure out some of the best spots to live that are relatively close to where I'll be working. I'm looking for an area with a good amount of young professionals...a spot with a good amount of bars, restaurants, shops, and music venues nearby. I obviously want to be in a good, safe area. I'd be willing to go as high as $800 or $900 for rent. I work pretty odd hours, so I'd be getting out of work around midnight and I'm a night owl...so I'd like to be somewhere where there's a good bit of nightlife.
I've done some looking around on apartments.com and craigslist but I'm still not really familiar with the different areas and neighborhood names, which makes it difficult to narrow down my search.
Any help would be much, much appreciated!

So - based on what I've read (especially in this thread), it sounds like Uptown is the place for me...however, I'm also hearing good things about Dilworth, Elizabeth, and Huntersville. I know that Uptown is a bit more expensive than other places, although I'd really just be looking for a 1-person Studio or Loft apartment. Here are the places that I'd be looking at (all of which are in Uptown):
Post-Gateway
120 N Cedar St # 735
Charlotte, NC 28202
Loft Studio: $965
Studio: $730 - $975
-------
Post-Uptown
305 N. Graham Street
Charlotte, NC 28202
Lost Studio: $960 - $1015
Studio: $895 - $1205
-------
The Arbors
517 W 8th Street
Charlotte, NC 28202
Garden: $925 - $990
-------
Camden Cotton Mills
520 West Fifth St
Charlotte, NC 28202
* doesn't seem to have anything under $1200...too much for me
-------
Ten 05 W Trade
1005 W Trade St
Charlotte, NC 28202
1 Bedroom / Loft: $950 - $1080
------
So - do I seem to be on the right path here? Based on what I'm looking for (nightlife, safe area, restaurants, young people, etc), does it sound like I should focus on Uptown...or would it be worth checking out some of the other areas like Dilworth, Huntesville, and Elizabeth? I also looked into Alpha Mills...but the location seemed to be literally "out of the loop" and I wasn't sure if that'd be a good spot or not. I like the idea of being right downtown...although it's kind of odd that there's not much shopping in Uptown. Are there at least grocery stores and pharmacies?

All those are great selections and are within the loop.
If you want to have less walking to nightlife most of it occurs around the epicentre on College St and Trade and also around College St and 7th St.
Groceries will be limited and shopping you will need to go to suburbs for most of it.

I don't want to confuse you since you have obviously done your research and have some great choices....but you looked in to South End? Right outside of Uptown and next to Dilworth? There is a Camden there as well. The apt's you have mentioned are good choices. Just thought I would want to throw that out there since you had not mentioned it. I personally love Dilworth as well. I am living in South Park now and plan on heading to either Dilworth or South End when my lease is up. In Dilworth if you are near East Blvd you are within walking distance to Big Daddy's Burgers, Plan B restaurant, Cantina 1511(my favorite restaurant!), a Starbucks, a Caribou Coffee, Outback, Brixx, Harris Teeter, Picasso's(a bar), 131 Main(restaurant) etc. Short drive to Uptown, etc. I realized I have a lot to say on this because I am helping my friend find a place...I sent you a PM.
