In the past 2 weeks I have had 2 nice size dings and scratches on my brand new car because inconsiderate people insist on parking right next to me in parking lots!!! They are both so big that I will have to go to "Dent Wizard" or some other company to get them out since simple buffing won't do it.

In both cases I parked in the middle of the spot and "away from the masses", but they decided to park so darn close that it would be impossible for them to get in or out of their car without slamming into my door.

I guess now, I will get even more much needed exercise by parking in BFE in whatever parking lot I am in. Just promise that if you pass me you will give me a lift okay?

Thanks for letting me vent!!!

Jake - I'm of a mind that people who park next to me after I've deliberately parked in the middle of nowhere, should be "summarily executed". What is with these people? You parked in a way that indicates to the world that you don't want any automotive company and they do it anyway. What is the mindset at work here? It's not a Charlotte thing, or NC thing, these idiots are everywhere. The only saving grace to the whole issue is that I find parking spaces seem to be wider than they were in NJ!

You wouldn't happen to be one of those people who have a HUGE SUV and park int he C (compact) spaces at Target that are right beside the store entrance. I have a compact and it never fails every time I go there and start to pull in, some inconsiderate person with a huge escalade etc. has parked in one of those spots and goes over the line into the next spot!!! The deserve to have their precious car dinged!

It seems to be an epidemic! I was in the Arboretum shopping center today and saw a person put a shopping cart between their car and the next. Then, they proceeded to pull out. As they did, the cart got squeezed between the two cars. The operator did NOT STOP! They continued, and put a large scratch on the other parked car. They did not even leave a note. I got the license plate and wrote it on paper and left it for the parked car.

People can be so rude and incondiserate!

I feel your pain Jake!

In addition to parking away from the crowd, I also try to park on a curb, that way you cut the risk down by 50% by giving only one car the opportunity to park beside you.

But I feel your pain, that sucks!

I always park at a curb out in BFE. But today, a big Chevy Suburban parked beside me at Target and a gust of wind caught his door as he opened it. And guess what? It left a HUGE dent on the rear driver's side door of my nearly brand-new car (just turned over 2,000 miles last week). Why did he have to park his huge SUV so close to my small sedan way out in BFE???

At least the guy was honest. He was leaving a note as I walked up to my car. So I got his insurance and contact info and called to make the claim as soon as I got home.

I'm hoping Dent Wizard can fix it but I'm fairly sure I'm going to have to have a new door, new paint, etc.

Totally feel your pain, Jake.
Used to not be so bad, but seems to be getting worse.

I drop off the family and park is just about the furthest space away.
The truth is that moms in Suburbans hauling the kids around just do not care.
My wife is no different, the car is just the absolute last thing on her mind.
Her Odyssey in 6 months looks like my cars at lease end.
I never can figure out where she gets the tires dirty (mud on the sides), and joke that she takes it four wheeling.

I can't get out of a parking lot the last two years w/o a ding, it seems. Like others, I park off in the hinterlands and still manage to get dinged. I have honestly thought about inventing some kind of wrap around bumper for my car doors - some horizontal thing - that is rubber - and sticks out. That way, other car doors would hit the rubber and not my car. My Benz is 17 years old and been treated well all these years . . . until the last two . . . and I can't figure it out. I know when I have to park at the airport that I am gonna be sick when I retrieve my car (and so therefore, am never surprised). But in parking lots where I have parked a mile away . . . why why why???????
