Default Matthews, NC Small town feel, going, going...

Was wondering if anyone else here feels the same way as I do? I live right near downtown Matthews. Matthews is quickly losing its cool small town feel. Between the traffic, upcoming road work (Indian Trail cut through doesn't help) and every spot of open land being built on or soon to be built on with MAJOR Projects coming, I'm not feeling it anymore. Was thinking of moving to Mint Hill, but havent researched the school situation. But I'm seeing Mint Hill possibly going through the same scene in a few years, lots of building going on there too. I hear currently Matthews schools are generally better. Any thoughts? Thanks folks

Long timers in Indian Trail have complained about the same thing long ago...

I suspect the Waxhaw's and Weddington's share your view soon.

Point is, join the club unfortunately...

Now that I think of it, doesn't Mint Hill have a huge mall planned soon to be built??

This is really nothing new - been happening for at least 10 years. I would highly recommend you check out Mint Hill. They are more conservative in their development there and I like the way they have grown much better because of it. Most schools are just as good as Matthews, especially Bain Elementary - that place is a real gem. And they are getting the next new high school in the county. I think their access to I485 is MUCH better than Matthews too.

Thanks guys, basically your both on the money i would say. Mint Hill just looks the have more elbow room in through their main part of town. I actually like Mint Hill's town better. Cleaner, Newer Better stores/shops and wider 2 lanes through town, not just 1. Yes, new high school is coming there too. My kids are starting elementary school in a couple of years. I've heard from friends the same. Bain is just as good as Matthews Elem. Didnt hear about a mall coming there. Will it be big, like the other 3 around here or a smaller mall?

Not huge, about the size of Stonecrest - the Bridges of Mint Hill at I485 and Lawyers Rd. (with a long awaited movie theater!)

Also, the new hospital will be down at the next I485 exit

I'm telling you, Mint Hill will have it all in about 2-3 years.

Don't get me wrong, Matthews is still a great town....Kristopher's might be the best place to order wings and watch Football on a Sunday. Great location to HD, Lowe's, & all kinds of stores right on 51 and 74......

Right, that's the last I heard - it was scaled back due to citizen concerns of too much traffic. Supposed to be have only 2 big anchors at this point - though that may not be the most up to date info. I do know they have broken ground, so you could check at the town hall to see what exactly is being built.
