Update to say I got home at the same time if I had driven home.

Much better way to go home the trains where not crowded at 5.30 and I did not have to wait to get out of the car park, so if I find myself having to drive to work again I will be taking the train.

Thanks for the review!

For anyone who's tried - how is the lynx at night? For example, if I take the train in, then end up working late that day (say, 10pm), would I be in for a scary ride home? Or is it pretty decent all around?

I've taken it as late as 9:30pm after working late. There was a Checkers game that had just ended so the train was packed. Otherwise, it was the same as riding it at 5pm.

I'd love to see a corridor in North Mecklenburg along I-85 (Speedway area) or down US-29 to University City. To me it would make a lot of sense to have light rail serve two of North Carolina's #1 and #6 largest tourist attractions (Concord Mills & the Speedway).

Plus I'd then be able to ride it to Uptown!

I've taken it at night after Checkers games, after plays, and I feel perfectly safe.

Default Counterargument to idea that light rail increases crime

Property values and development have been booming along the Lynx corridor, especially in Southend. Won't this economic development -- influx of new businesses & residents, rise in property tax base, new jobs -- actually help decrease crime?

I've ridden the last train out at 1:00 AM and felt fine, of course everyone on it was like me, and quite buzzed from leaving the clubs. I wish it ran until 2 or 2:30 though b/c the bars close at 2, not 1.

Also, consider one possible alternative -- no guarantee that far-off suburbs with no access to transit will remain safe from crime in an era of economic downturn, rising gas prices & increasing foreclosures.

Good article in Atlantic Monthly about this a couple months ago, will try to find. Here it is, actually discusses Charlotte, too.

The Next Slum?
