I'm from Long Island, and one of the things we do great - is weddings! Has anyone gotten married lately in Charlotte? Can you recommend any good places? I'd like to start researching

Default weddings

I own a wedding planning company in philadelphia and will be moving to union county in the late spring/early summer. I don't think I am going to continue with my biz though. I need a break. Do you plan in NYC? From my understanding the scale of weddings that we are use to does not exist in Charlotte. My girls spend an average of about $80,000 a wedding and in Charlotte it is around $22,000. I don't think I would do as well down there at wedding planning. I think the brides expect different things too in Charlotte then up here. I tend to supervise up here and would probably get paid less down there for doing more in depth things like setting up garland or whatever else they use for decorations. It just seems really different!

$80,000??????????? That is just mind boggling. Even if you don't have to go in debt to pay that much (and I bet most people do) WHY would anyone waste that much money on ONE day???? It's just obscene to me. I sincerely hope this trend does not take hold here in Charlotte.

But back to the original question...weddings in Charlotte are less often full course sit down meals like they are up north. Most people seem to have more of a cocktail party type reception with a limited bar of just wine and beer. I'm sure doing those things greatly reduces the cost of the wedding.

Default lovesmoutains

I agree it is crazy..although my parents did spend that much on mine but I come from a huge Italian family and everyone has a big wedding since we have so many relatives!!!

I just had one bride that spent $170,000 from start to finish-insane!!! But they didn't go into debt for it some people just have it I guess.

Yes the weddings are different. I had a friend that got married in Atlanta and I had never seen anything like it. It was so low key but beautiful and meaningful for them. Whatever floats your boat

If you are willing to travel a little try the different vineyards in the area. I just attended a wedding at the Childress Vineyards in Lexington and it was absolutely beautiful, a very Tuscan atmosphere (@ 1hr15 min or so from Charlotte) I am originally from LI too and have lived in several areas and have found no one does weddings like Long Islanders.....especially NY Italians and Greeks
