Hi, fellow Midwesterner! I'm from Minneapolis and frequently spend time in the summer up at Lake Gilmore near Minong and Haywood. I've lived on the Eastside for some 34 years now and am very comfortable here. The work that has been done on upgrading Independence Blvd. in recent years has had both bad and good effects on the area. The good effects revolve around the fast commute to almost any place in the city - Uptown, the new Charlottetown shopping area and the medical area area in particular. Likewise it's a very quick trip to shopping at Cottswold, South Park and Matthews. UNCC and CPPC are also only about 20-30 minutes away. In short it's a very convenient area. However, the construction along Independence has caused the closing of most of the shops along this route. This will continue to happen as construction continues beyond Sharon-Amity towards Matthews.
Many of the neighborhoods are being upgraded - Sheffield for instance - and the houses are appreciating. At a time when many houses in Charlotte are depreciating many Eastside neighborhoods are seeing an appreciation. My house for example has appreciated about $10,000 in the past year. Many young couples are moving into these neighborhoods which have lovely trees and well-built houses.
It's my bedtime now, so I have to say goodnight. Feel free to DM me for more info. I'llbe glad to answer any questions you may have.

I will direct message you if i have anymore questions.
I'm sure most of you have traveled to the Triad area, or perhaps even lived here. Would you say the cost of living is higher or lower in either area?
