It does provide extra incentive for kids learning to ski to stay up though. I heard the tale too when living on Lake Tillery 45 years ago.

My son says he had someone tell him it was spotted in June but w/o proof - who knows if that is just a rumor.

The 3-footer they caught in the French Broad River in Asheville two years ago was no rumor. The state wildlife folks took it away.

Hee Hee. Sounds real to me!!! Well, I know the Hickory gator is real, but I am just wondering if he is still there. Cause it would be very likely someone would shoot him. I have friends who live on Lake Hickory (127 N side) and people were upset that a gator was left to roam around - very worried about pets and children. SO it would surprise me, frankly, if someone has not already shot it.

I doubt it. Probably would not be able to survive the Western NC winter temperatures.

I wonder why wildlife people did not rescue him and relocate him. Seems cruel. SIGH.
