I was out driving in that storm and a little alarmed...and picked up a UPS system for my computer on the way home! Being an independent contractor, data loss is NOT okay!

Woohoo! That was awesome earlier tonight! We opened the garage doors, popped open the camping chairs, and ate crab dip to enjoy the light show. That lightning was something fierce, one even popped right on top of our house. Glad everyone's safe!

In brunswick county for the week, good to hear we got some rain. Tornado was reported outside of Fayetteville by the same storm, so far no serious damage.

I saw a video clip on one of the stations - WCNC maybe? - showing lightning that looked like it struck solidly on the Wachovia building. Amazing! I guess that is what lightning rods are for!!
Hope no one hurt in Fayetteville . . .

Was driving home on 485 in Mint Hill aro 6pm and I swear, no one was driving more than 15mph. You literally could not see more than 20 ft in front of you even w/the wwipers at full blast....scary.
Can someone tell me why we don't have more resevoirs in this part of the state? If we did, storms like this are perfect to fill those things up....would help the drought situation also...I don't get it..

I wouldnt be surprised, I remember once I was in downtown in the bank of america building during a storm and lightning stuck that building with the green top pretty hard you could feel the power of it.
So far no new stories from Fayetteville, I assume everything's okay, but one can never be sure.

It was right between 5:35 and 5:45ish as I picked up my girls at Harris Y at 5:30 and was on the way back home. So it sounds like that what it was.

That storm was definitely crazy last night. I saw a lot of 'would be' lighting strikes around uptown. N. Graham St had about 6-8in of water on it in some spots.
Does anyone know of a map of lighting strikes from last night? I'm interested to see where they occurred and how many.

I truely hope you have more than just a UPS now for protection from data loss. You're probably more likely to lose data from a HDD going bad from normal use than a lightning strike.
BACKUPS :-D

If you like heat and dry all summer, why are you living here? Where do you think a "Drought" comes from......heat and dry weather!! You want that kind of weather, Southern California, Las Vegas or Phoenix, AZ would be the place for you. Yes, for anyone "thinking" about moving to NC, we do get severe
t-storms in the summer and "can" get some snowy weather in the winter. Looks sort of wierd seeing snowflakes falling on a sandy beach by the Atlantic......but it does/can happen!
