Considering moving to NC
I am considering a move to NC. I have some questions that I'd like to ask to find the better city. I am looking at working in the Charlotte or Raleigh areas.
The most recent thing that I have discovered I need is accessibility to golf. I'm in MA now and this has got to be the worst place I have ever lived for golf. If you aren't in a league, they don't want your business. Also, they won't let you play 18 holes if you start after 2 PM. I spent 3 hours today trying to find a place to play and couldn't get on anywhere. I am seriously wanting to get my handicap to the single digits, so I need a place where I can play without such a hassle. A area near some good golf courses would be an excellent fit.
Also, we need an area with safe schools that can provide a really good education.
We'd want homes that are at least 1500 sq ft and preferably with a nice yard. We'd probably be looking in the $200,000-400,000 range.
I would greatly like to build a home, so it'd be ideal to find a home in the same area that I could end up building in.
So here's what I have thought of for now. Please let me know what areas sound good. Also, if you know whether Raleigh or Charlotte sounds better, please let me know. Right now, I'm thinking Charlotte would be better.
Thanks.

At that price point, you'd easily find a 2500 sq. ft. home in the Charlotte area come down for a look...you may be pleasantly surprised...

So what areas would that be in? Would it be near the nice golf courses in the area? I'd prefer the public courses because I probably wouldn't be joining a club anytime soon.

In Charlotte, and probably Raleigh too, there are just too many to list! Your price point will give you a HUGE amount of options, really. If schools are your top priority, start by researching which schools you might want your children to attend, then research some of the neighborhoods those schools are assigned to. greatschools.net
Whether Charlotte or Raleigh is the better city for you really depends on what kind of job you need.

I'm going to be working with a construction management firm if I move there. I'm hoping to get into a high rise market, but I'd be happy with large commercial or hospitality construction projects.
I should've mentioned that I want a place with some culture. I live close to one of the best Little Italys in the country. I would very much like to find a place where there is some Italian culture. Does either city have a nice Italian area in it?

Not Charlotte, not sure about Raleigh, but I don't think so. You have to remember, NC is home to the Cherokee Nation and was settled by Scots-Irish Presbyterians.

Since I posted this, I found an area I would like to know more about. How does my list from before fit the Southwest area of Charlotte? I am thinking of the cities of Pineville, Fort Mill, Tega Cay, Rock Hill, and possibly Belmont. How do these areas sound? It appears that there is a very good school system down in that area. I'm guessing the Italian thing won't be so good around there, but how is life there otherwise?
How is the pizza and sub market down in Charlotte? I am hoping to open a pizzeria in the next city I live in. I would probably search around the college campuses first. Does anyone know the going rate for rent around the campuses?
Also, where is the Raintree course that is in many home descriptions?

Nc
Try Mooreseville, or Huntersville. Nice golf courses, and good schools. My cousin lives there after leaving LI ny, and loves it..
