Charlotte to Dallas
I may be relocaing to Dallas because job transfer. Has anyone who is now living in Charlotte moved here from the Dallas/Ft Worth area? If so, what are the similarities and differences. Especially weather, vibe, people and cost of lving.

I moved to Charlotte from the Dallas area, what part of Dallas are you going to be going to? I most familiar with the North Side, but it was nice. Weather was a bit hotter than here. People were very friendly, in fact I found them to be a bit more open that Charlotte. Cost of living is Cheaper. Housing is Cheaper. You pay no State Income Taxes but property taxes are much higher. Let me know what other info you may want.

What area of Dallas would you be working?
I do not live in Charlotte but I have visited both Charlotte and the north dallas suburbs like Allen and Frisco.
The cost of living seems similar, property taxes are higher, but there is no income tax.
People were nice in both areas. I think the summers are worse in Dallas but that is just from what people have told me.

I like both those areas. Richardson has a little lower home prices as I recall. Plano is a bit more stuck up. I like Plano, it is where I lived (and Frisco) but lots of plastic walking around. I worked in Plano too, so the commute was low. From Plano your commute to DFW would be ok if you use the tollway (which you would have to do really). I also like the addison area for hanging out on the weekends and such. North of Plano is StoneBrier Mall, which I believe is still the #1 retail per square foot area in the US. Its crazy.

Thanks Whytewulf. Will Dallas be a big adjustment coming from Charlotte in your opinion? Are the two cities alike at all? Or are they very different and if so in which way?

I don't know how the cities could be alike. They are both very different. You have Charlotte a very green rolling hills kind of city close to beach and mt's. Dallas is very flat, different climate, different food (lots of Tex Mex) etc. Different culture there too. People love Texas and show it..remember..everything is bigger in TX

You may want to check out Las Colinas, its supposed to be nice and its near the airport.
Also I agree with the other poster that Dallas is pretty flat.
Coming from NY, I thought they had some similarities such as the lost cost of housing and the abundance of chain type eateries. I thought people in both cities were nice, especially coming from NY.

I don't think you will see a big difference culturally. Physically its very different. As others have said. It is flat, less green, less open space, much bigger metro area, a financial hub and international airport. The food is different, but I enjoyed the food betetr there, more Tex Mex, I can recommend some nice places if you want. But you get all the same chains, so food isn't a big concern. You will feel that there is a bit more state pride in Texas. They have tons of sayings. It is not Austin or San Antonio where you get much more Texan, Dallas has just as many imports as Charlotte. Its still Bible Belt, there is a bit more country themed than southern themed. You are in Tornado alley, so be prepared. They can get hot 100+ but not too many days and its not as humid as Houston, about the same as here. They have a few lakes close and the Gulf is about 5 hours away for the beach. The mountains.. well not very close, so don't expect to see any, but there are the plains/plateus west of Dallas. Again Texas is huge so you may not leave Texas and still drive an hour. Shreveport is 3 hours away for some quick gambling.

Might check out Coppell also. It is close to the airport and seems like a nice area. I was there in October visiting a friend - she lives there and it seemed like a nice area.
