Has anyone went through the process. How difficult is it really to pass the portfolios and the exam? Any info or advice would be appreciated. I don't have a support system to bounce questions or ideas off.

Thank you sincerely in advance.

You will probably get more responses if you post this in the education forum. However, I know a teacher who had to take the test for her NBPTS several times. She said it was hard.

you would probably get more responses on a school counselor board...you can try here: Teachers.Net - SCHOOL COUNSELORS - School Counselors, join your fellow teachers on the School Counselors chatboard. The Teachers.Net School Counselors website offers School Counselorss a School Counselorss mailring (School Counselorss mail list or Sc or here if you are a member of ASCA: Message Boards - American School Counselor Association (http://www.schoolcounselor.org/content.asp?pl=325&sl=455&contentid=455 - broken link).

from what i hear it is a difficult process---it has a high failure rate. just curious, what school system do you work for?

my supervisor for my practicum experience passed it on her first try. you might be able to connect with counselors in your district who have passed to hear about their experiences and get support.

i plan on getting my national boards in counseling when i can go for it, even though i do NOT agree with getting this certification from a test/process developed by teachers rather than counselors. i passed the NCE and will take the NCSCE when i am eligible and i wish the NCSCE would count for the pay raise, but unfortunately it doesn't do anything for our salary.

good luck!

The counselor at my school took it the first year it was offered for counselors and she passed. Contact South Charlotte Middle School if you would like a contact.

I took mine three years ago in English. It was a breeze. My friend and my husband took theirs also--we all passed. But I think teaching English helped--the main part is writing. Math and foriegn languages seem difficult.

Really the whole process was like one grad class.

Good luck!
