Charlotte vs Denver vs Seattle vs Others for computer IT industry
I'm 28 years old single white dude from Atlanta. I like to work then go out to drink and pass out in a ditch. This is what I'm looking for in order of importance list:
1. Good IT computer economy where someone can get a job *not* working in their field of training. (I've been an auditor, network admin, 3d modeler, animator, compositor, etc., but mostly trained in graphics) I know scripting but not hardcore C++ or anything. I just want to move out of Atlanta and be able to get a $20+ hour job relatively fast doing something with computers, preferably not entertainment industry. Been building PC's since the intel 486dx (when I was like 12?) so enjoy working with hardware too and wouldn't mind some kind of hardware sales or servicing if it pays decent.
2. Atlanta has 5 million metro population, poor city planning, sprawl, and poor public transportation so there is too much traffic and it just feels too crowded in general so I would like something smaller or better quality at least.
3. For living arrangements, I want a rental unit that has restaurants and shops below or around it and apartments above or whatever. Either that or regular apartments with a short walk to buy food from some kind of eatery.
4. When I'm walking around the environment/city, I don't want to feel like I'm walking around in a rap video, religious theocracy, mexico, or a dukes of hazard episode. I will settle for a rap video without any actual stabbings or gunshots fired though if need be.
Whats the best options out of the choices in my topic or possibly other places?

Sounds like Stockholm or Oslo would work. I sure like it in both places.

I know that you said preferably not entertainment, but if I were you, I'd look at NFL Films. (non-union, good rep as an employer) It's a suburban location, but there is a light-rail line into Philly & if you get an apartment within walking distance of that, take the train to Philly & get drunk as a skunk, no worries..

If the number of 5M population is too much for you, you should not be looking at Seattle or Denver.
So, you want a smaller city where you can pass out in ditches......sorry, I don't know city ditches enough to comment, but I hear Arizona has a fairly large ditch where people actually have gone to stay overnight.

Why not take the attitude out of the post like everyone is against you and be a little mores serious? You can get some good help on here but the way you come across will determine the answers you will recieve.
Why not just stay in Atlanta. I think you will be able to find what you are lookign for there.
Waht price point are you wanting to spend on a rental? This will tell you if Charlotte is the place or not for you.
Good Luck!

I hope this is a joke because Charlotte is dirt cheap for housing compared to Seattle and most other cities. If you can't afford to live in Charlotte then you can't afford to live anywhere.

Can you just not answer a question? On $20 an hour that $40,000 per year. You want to be broke all the time and pay High on rent or not? What is your budget?

I pay $650 now for a large 1 bedroom apartment in a good place. Charlotte is basically the same if not cheaper
