Default No beer, no civilization!

Did anyone else read George Will's editorial in today's Observer? According to good ole George, without beer we wouldn't have survived nor would we be civilized!

My point is that it was a very interesting article that I thought people on the forum might be interested in reading. I'd set up a link to it , if I knew how to do it - I did once but have forgotten how - it happens when you pass 60 !!!

If anyone can tell me how to set up a link, I'll post it for you to read.

He was a wise man who invented beer. Plato

Without question, the greatest invention in the history of mankind is beer. Oh, I grant you that the wheel was also a fine invention, but the wheel does not go nearly as well with pizza. Dave Barry

I feel sorry for people who don't drink. When they wake up in the morning, That's as good as they're going to feel all day. Frank Sinatra

An intelligent man is sometimes forced to be drunk to spend time with his fools. Ernest Hemingway

Always do sober what you said you'd do drunk. That will teach you to keep your mouth shut. Ernest Hemingway

OK, thanks Carolina. I think this should do it. You, as a biologist, might be interested in this article.

When my son, now a math prof of some 38 years old, was 13 months we moved to Turkey. He was already weaned from breast milk, so we wondered what to do about liquids for him. Ar first not trusting neither soda nor milk in an unknown country which was experiencing a cholera epidemic at the time, we decided with the approval of my physician brother-in-law and biochemist husband, to give him beer. He loved it!!! People looked at us disapprovingly (whether because alcohol is thought to endanger a child's brain/health, or because a good Muslim baby would not drink alcohol), but for the first few months he drank beer. We finally felt he had enough antibodies in his system to let the economy loose on him and he started to drink milk with no side effects. Today he still likes beer, speaks some Turkish and has suffered no brain damage that I've noticed.

IMHO there is only one invention greater than beer: the mini-skirt.
