Welcome to NC! I've been to Savage, MN...very nice area! Do you already have jobs lined up? Knowing what your commute would be would help in deciding on an area. Also what price range.
I'm in Mooresville on the east side of town. Not as congested as the lake side, lots of nice subdivisions here, quiet & friendly neighborhoods. The Mooresville Graded School District has some of the best schools around. Close to ALOT of shopping. Depending on where in Charlotte, commute time can be 45-60 mins.

So much depends on how much you can spend on housing and where exactly you will be working. Please share that info so we can better advise you
