Family Dollar Commute
I would like to explore potential job opportunities at the Family Dollar Corp office.Where is the Family Dollar corp office located, what is the adress? Is it in matthews? And if its in Matthews what is the commute from the suburbs of Matthews to their corp office? Where do many of the people who have families with elemtary school children who work at the Family Dollar corp office live? Do they live in Matthews, Mint Hill etc?
We are a Jewish/Italian family of 4, two young elementary aged school children, looking at houses 300K to 375K. We currently live in Fla but are from the North East and would prefer a suburban area with nice schools and neighborhoods.
Any insight would be appreciated.
Thanks

yes, it's in Matthews. Employees live all over just as most people in town don't nec. live right by their work. They live where they can afford. But good thing is traffic isn't an issue and you can find a nice home in Matthews for that price. So you will have the best of both worlds.

1000's work there so they come from all over to work. You could easily live in Matthews and Mint Hill or Stallings/Indian Trail and still have a pretty easy time getting to work. Great company to work for. I worked there while in college and my mom has worked there for 25 years.

Here's the address:
Address: 10401 Monroe Rd.
Matthews, NC 28105
Phone: 704-847-6961
Fax: 704-847-0189
You can look up this address on a real estate website map that shows you the surrounding schools and housing developments, then look up the school's stats. Generally, I've heard good things about Matthews, but I don't know first hand.
Some good real estate sites are Allentate.com and zillow.com They both have interactive maps to help you look at surrounding areas.
Good luck with the interview process.
Also, since you're looking at retail and Matthews, you may want to explore Harris Teeter. They are the largest local supermarket here.

Very nice of all of you, we appreciate all of the information. We are sick of Fla and looking for a change that doesnt have the cold of the north east but still close enough to family in Fla and NJ on the east coast.
Thanks so much.

Do you already have a job at Family Dollar HQ or are you moving here in the hopes to get one? It is very tough to get a corporate job there.

Trying to get a job, having some folks reach out for me. How come it is so tough to get a corp job there? Do they look for qualified folks ouside of NC?

I don't think it's very tough to find a job there, but it's best to go through a recruiter and the more specialized your background is the better. If you're in retail already, then retailers will find your background attractive. It reduces the learning curve and growing pains they have to deal with. Other factors involve what systems you're familiar with and how similar the role is that you're applying for to the one that you currently have. Don't expect a promotion, not that it can't happen, but an even lateral position is more likely.
Other retailers around here include Belk (department store) and Rack Room Shoes. You can also make the switch to manufacturing from retail as I did when I moved here.
Definitely try to secure employment before making the move if that's possible.
Good Luck!

What manufacturers are in that specific area beside the retailers you noted. I have 20 years of corporate inventory management/replenishment experience on the retail side.
I have folks keeping their eyes open for me at Lowes as well, although thats northern charlotte etc and their corp office in my area of expertise is still in Wilksboro, not Moorseville.
Thanks
