I was so excited to look at granite the other day. I was quoted a price of $880 for both my vanities. So my neighbor got in on the deal and we drove down to look at stone. We chose the level 1 so our cost would not go up. Then the salesgirl asks us about the backsplash piece (that 4" piece that goes around the edge). All of the suddent the price shoots up almost $400.....
So, my questions are 1.) should the backsplash piece be so expenseive (I need 5 pieces) 2.) Should they honor the original price they quoted me?

you should check out Carolina Countertops. Nells is the owner (young guy). He creates a unique mold for every situation, and it is custom fit. Looks like Corean or Granite, and no where near the price. It can also be repaired, and doesn't require the maintenance that other surfaces do.

If your quote does not include backsplash, you can't make them honor it. Was it verbal or written? What exactly does it say if written?

It was in an email. It did not specify the back splash so I didn't realize it was extra....nor was I informed or asked. That's why I was kind of disappointed when the price jumped up so dramatically. Guess now I know!

If you are looking for a skilled and inexpensive granite contractor, I recommend Universal Construction. They sell granite for $35.00/sq foot (includes cut and edges)
You can view their website at Universal Construction or call them at 704-426-0101.
